brake booster clearance

Hi guys,I have a problem, I'm installing my 557 with tall valve covers,{which I need to clear my stud girdle} in my 1975 f100 and the valve covers won't clear the brake booster.Has anybody ran into this problem? I don't need power brakes, but what master cyl. etc. will I need? Thanks, Randy.

WHAT is the diameter of the booster... 11.5 " ?

if it is 9 " then you're up the creek.

if not then you can swap one in.

I say small booster would be the easiest way.
Or you could pony up the extra cash and get a brake booster that mounts on the frame out of the engine bay..

My point in the 1st reply was if he already has the smaller booster he may be up the creek.

He has to reply with what he has.

I know where there is a smaller 9" booster in great working order if you need it.

Sounds like this is getting sorted out. I wouldn't mind a few pics of the 557, and the truck its going into. :nana:

Thanks for joining FTF!

Unless it has been swapped he should have the large one. If he has the small booster it will not be a problem with tall valve covers. Use an F-350 brake booster and your covers should clear fine.

F-350 booster on a 400 motor, plenty of room.

Thanks guys for all the responce. After looking at the chart Mil1ion posted I see that ford did offer manual disk brakes and the master cylinder bore was the same size,I removed my booster and the adapter from the firewall and bolted the master cylinder right to the firewall. I had an adjustable pushrod that I bought for my wife's mustang and it works perfect. I should have the motor running this weekend. I will see if it stops ok then. If it doesn', I'll opt for a smaller booster. I'll have to get some pictures, thanks again guys. Randy

Yep F350 Booster.

Here's the 150/250 4x4 booster and the F350 booster side by side.

It seems that the F350 term is a bit off. 460 booster is more of an accurate term.

I think that this booster can be found from the factory in any 460 equipped (from the factory) truck.

What were the specs on the truck Dennis? My F-250 has the large diameter booster. The F-350 4x4 booster is the small diameter booster but as we all know it was never offered with the 460 motor. I don't think the motor was the only choice for the smaller diameter booster.

Small diameter is a double diaphram, single diaphram on the larger diameter booster. Much better applied pressure to the M/C with the smaller booster.

If you want a little better braking yes. If you are going to do the upgrade then get the F-350 master cylinder as well and upgrade the rear wheel cylinders to the F-350's. The M/C and the wheel cylinders are both a bigger bore diameter then the stock 1/2 ton's used and are a direct bolt in replacement.
