Bed liner over insulation...

So I'm getting my 79 Bronco back to reliable dd/wheeler status. I've had cheapo carpet in it since I bought it from the PO...after hauling parts and absorbing grease, etc...the carpet smells and I want to do away with it.

With 36x14.5" TSLs and 12" cherrybombs, I wouldn't mind cutting down on some noise to have a conversation...so I would like to cut down on sound. I also wouldn't mind keeping the Bronco cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. So after some reading, I found alot of guys say the following Peel and Seal is just about identical to Dynamat eXtreme:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_154017-8132...roductId=1018733&ipTrail=204.155.99.89&rpp=32

From what I've read, general consensus seems to believe that cuts out 7-11db of cabin noise. And I should only need somewhere between 5-7 rolls depending on how extensive I get with coverage.

Now my question comes here...as I said, I'm trashing the carpet, and am looking for something that I can just spray out. Which naturally leads me to bed liner. Everyone and their brother is telling me it can't be done. First of all, I understand foil doesn't promote the best adhesion, but I don't think it's impossible. Secondly, I'm stupid...so I need your help.

While digging, I came across this old Jp Magazine article, that doesn't have much detail, but they rolled Herculiner on to Dynamat...unless the foils have different adhesion properties, what's the difference???

I was also thinking about scuffing the foil and laying down a self etching primer and then rolling something on. Or possibly even laying down some fiberglass and then rolling on. So what says you guys???

Also worth noting, alot of sources say just the bed liner reduces cabin noise by 2-4 db. So between insulation and bed liner, I wouldn't mind seeing a noise reduction of 9-15db.

I think that would work...big thing would be to make sure the peel 'n' stick had a clean surface to adhere to..and it does stick very well when surface prep is done well.
I don't think scuffing the surface would be necessary...just a wipe with some acetone or degreaser without soaking it.

I thought a standard cleaning wipe down might be be good enough...Do you think the primer would be necessary???

I did read that when the insulation flexed it had a tendancy to crack the bed liner. But on a flat floor...how much is it really going to flex???

I bought a roll of insulation, if you recall, at the auto fair. After installing it in the F-SD it was obvious that having one solid, contiguous piece of material was impossible... read - you're going to have slits, seams, and spaces that the material simply cannot conform to. Not to mention the insulation was about 1/2" thick and had plenty of give to it. I don't think it'd be a good solution.

That bedliner seems to stick to anything and unless (my understanding) it is subjected to -20 or better, it won't crack. That peel 'n' stick is typically an asphalt based membrane and I can't see it moving when it is put on a floor.

There are a bunch of companies that sell that kind of stuff...

Eff you...not telling.

I keep seeing lizard skin pop up...but I also keep reading that the spray on stuff does NOT reduce as much sound or insulate as well. I'm pretty staunch on getting an actual insulator.

Keep in mind, this peel n seal is asphalt based, and pretty solid, not very thick. As for conformity of laying the stuff, not looking for perfect...just better than it is.

We barely see below 40 above, so I think I'm good.
