got a 97 f350 7.3 turbo diesle with a bad piston can you cange just one piston or do you need to do all 8?

I guess you could do all 8, but while your that far in might as well just have the block checked, check the rest of the pistons and throw some new rings in it.

Yes, you can replace just one...and even do it with the engine in the truck, or at minimum raised up a bit. They make a habit of doing it all the time in semis. but, what caused the piston failure in the first place?

i dont know i do know the injectors were replaced be for it happend and i hurd that that can some times cause it?

Yeah, he's correct in telling you to find the reason for the piston failure. The injector can definately cause that. Make sure that theres no head or block damage either before you re-assemble.
