AOD not shifting

It's like the trans is stuck in first and not wanting to shift. That or it seams to slip; Fluid is full I checked that.. Last time I drove it (2-3 wks ago) I didn't have any problems with it.

Anything else I should check?

out of adjustment?

Exactly...always had that issue with my AOD's. At that time I was much more mechanically ignorant, so I always brought it to somebody and don't know how to fix it...but that was always the culprit. I posted a you tube vid about adjusting it not too long ago...lemme see if I can find it.

One more thing would that also cause ity not to kick down? I.E. downshift for the passing gear?

Well **** no such luck..

Full in, Half, and Full out, makes no differance...

Assuming you verified the linkage on the transmission moves when throttle is moved.. meaning the cable isn't broken, it sounds like something is sticking in the tranny which isn't uncommon on a vehicle that sits. What happens if you select 1st on the shifter and drive around? It may be that you need to get the fluid warmed up to free up whatever is sticking.

Checked out the linkage, everything works from park to low still no dice..

I'm thinking the valve bodies 'bout had it.. found this http://www.becontrols.com/ourfaqs/aodtroubleshoot_1.htm#05092416

My AOD works fine in Park, Reverse, and Neutral, and will move forward in OD, D, and Low, but is always in first gear, what could cause this?

There are a few common causes for this. The first is a disconnected or missing TV linkage. If the TV linkage is disconnected the transmission should default to full TV pressure which will make the transmission shift as if it were at Wide Open Throttle all the time. It is also possible that the TV valve in the valve body is stuck in the high pressure position. The easiest way to see if this is the case is to perform a TV pressure test as shown on our TV Linkage Adjustment Page.

Keep in mind when installing the Lokar TV cable with a carburetor, or when making your own TV linkage it is possible to push the TV valve in further than the factory cable allowed. If you are using a valve body with some mileage on it there may be enough of a ridge from the original range of travel to cause the TV valve to get stuck when it travels past the ridge.

You could also have a stuck governor, or a stuck 1-2 shift valve. If the governor is sticking it will cause a delayed, or no upshift, depending on how bad the condition causing the sticking is. If the 1-2 shift valve is stuck, and will not stroke, the transmission will not shift out of first gear.

And I'm looking at this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TCI-432200/

i know its going to sound a little "out there" but i had an AOD once not shift in a gm... (one of the big reasons i wont own another auto unless im forced to)... only my problem was it wouldnt come out of what felt like final drive... so no matter how hard u pushed the pedal itd just crawl up to speed like i was pulling a dead school bus with the car..

turned out my problem was because the AOD was computer controlled that when the computer went it took the tranny with it... the computer managed to somehow fry the circuits that told when and where for the tranny to shift.. car would still run like nothing was wrong but tranny just wouldnt shift.... we had the computer replaced and worked fine again after that..

i know fords also been into adding the computer to controlling the autos as well... so i wouldnt put it past computers causing it with them as well...

nahh thats a different issue there i had that one as well in a different vehicle.. i solved that one simply leaving it unplugged... when it would be plugged in itd buck like a pissed off bronco and stall out anytime you tried to slow down...

with the one i was talking about itd move smothly.. just wouldnt shift at all.. if you turned the car off itd reset and start out in first.. but second it went to shift itd drop right to the last gear and stay that way...

i just dont know when ford started having the computers in total control of the trannys... theyd use sensors to read fluid pressure and in turn the computer would be the one telling the tranny when to shift. older trannys ran it directly off the fluid pressure to shift them...
