Alt woes

So after my wheelin adventure, my alt took a ****, I fixed it like 30 miles after we left the place, and have been weery of it since, swapped for my stangs old reman alt, with the bigger alt pulley from the underdrive kit. So she still charges low like the other one, so im thinkin of just orderin a alt for a 94+ stang, and then swappin it in, like I did on my stang and F350. That sounds like a good plan right.

Oh finally washed it good. Still need to clean the inside, all mud and other stuff from the place in there lol.

I got the pivot mount style. I did the swap in my 88 stang. Ill just have my buddy at the parts store get me a 94+ stang alt, I think that will work good.

Why not get a taurus alternator for relatively the same price? The taurus alternator is a pivot alternator and puts out 130amps.

Had my buddy at the parts store get me a reman 94 stang 130amp alt for 115 bucks. Swapped it in today. Guage still reads at the same spot, none of the other guages work (fuel, oil, water temp) so im guessin this one doesnt work either. Ill prob throw a aftermarket alt guage in there somewhere.

I had a slight fitment prob, the stud was too close to the coolant pipe/clamp, so at work I had an adapter from another ford alt, to make the stud go from the side to the top, and this worked out much better. Seeing I didnt have the propper cap to finish it off, I just made 1 out of silicone.

Chris, are you color blind? You dont see the red cable going from the alt over to where the battery would be?? This is my 3rd 3G swap. Stang, F350, Bronco

Yeah I saw the cable but I didn't know if maybe it was still from a 95amp alternator that maybe the previous owner put on. You have to have a thicker cable when you step from 95amp 3G to 130amp 3G :p

Sounds good. Just give it a feel after driving for a while and if the wire is cool to the touch then there shouldn't be any problems YelloThumbUp

Just a suggestion...use a piece of thickwall heatshrink where your wire goes into the compression lug....it takes a lot of strain off that point....you would have to go to an electrical supply house for that grade of heatshrink...it is not the same stuff you can buy at regular places.

I have big enough heat shrink at home for that. They will not pull out, trust me. Everything is working good. Its kinda sad that the alt has a squeek to it, ill have to get it swapped. Maybe a belt while im at it.
