Air pump or smog pump

Can the air pump or smog pump as a lot of people call it, be turned into a small air compressor that runs off the engine?

I don't believe it can because it's a vane-type-fan instead of a pressure-pump.
Put your thumb over the output of it and feel how much pressure it can make,
then you can tell us?

simply no... it only pushes air, not compress

You would need a air conditioner compressor if you are trying to make a onboard air pump.

Guys on FSB have turned the smog pump location in to an area that can support OBA with the use of a york compressor.

Thanks I really was hoping to get some use out of it. I guess I could pull it off when it goes bad,but it's a lot of work.

I have pulled smog pump off a 85 before and most people seem to forget they have to plug the back of the heads with a pipe plug. Rather hard when you still have the engine in the truck.

I didn't forget. If I forget (or I'm wrong) I'll jump at the chance to fix it.

And I also didn't forget that it's a straight bolt thread (5/8-11) and not
a tapered or straight pipe plug thread either.

I am almost tempted to pull off the smog pump.But my truck runs so well I will leave it.
