Here's a note for all of you open element air filter guys... KEEP YOUR FILTER CLEAN AND OILED!!! I spent Sunday morning hunting down the source of the bad idle on my F-150, and after checking the coils, injectors, plugs, and coils, I decided to pull the air filter stuffs off of the TB and found this:

After a few minutes with a good cleaner, I ended up with this...

I've decided to pull the TB off of the truck entirely and give it a thorough cleaning. The intake itself is all gunked up. Any solutions for that? BTW, the air filter was cleaned and oiled 1000 miles ago.

It's a full blown K&N. I'm mulling over switching back to a stock housing and filter.

My bet is that the build up is due to a lack of cleaning by the previous owner.

Chances are. I've gone through the service records (all Ford records up to the high 100's) and can't find anything along the lines of intake cleaning. Plenty of belt and hose changes, though.
