Hello This is a question for blacksnapon, however any knowledgeable for tech might be able to assist. My Grandson has a 2000 Ford Explorer 4.0L 6-Cyl engine code X, that he overheated till it died (Several Times). His 2000vehicle vin 1FMZU62X2YZC55891. Now comes the donor veh engine from a 98 Ford Explorer 4.0L 6 Cyl engine code X. Donor vin 1FMYU22X3WUC96397.
My questions are;
1.) The 98 has two fuel lines and the 2000 has one with the additional one sealed off. Does it matter? The fuel lines are ran different, should we just plug one?
2.) The wiring harness on the 98 has four wires going to one plug wherein The 2000 wiring has 6 wires on the same plug of the harrness.
3.) donor Vehicle was assembled in Louisville, KY, while the vehicle (2000) was made in St Louis. Does it matter?
4. What issues should we be more concerned about and correct prior to installation. Help any guidance will be helpfull.
5.) fuel lines are different, should we just plug one?
6.) The donor engine appears to be in very very good condition and is from the donor vehicle with a matching engine serial number with less than 100,000 Miles.
Our engine we have is shot!
7.) Will we have to change the 2000 vehicles engine computer EEC-V, over to a 1998?? Or are will the same unit work with the 98 engine?
We truely wanted a 1999 engine but that did not happen and now we have the 1998 4.0L OHV vin code X. Everyone has advised, referance books proclaimed, well as the shop we purchased it from advised that it should be a Drop-in-play. However, now that they are side beside we need advise on what we need to make it happen. My mechanic is scratching his head and looking for advise as well. As well he should be scratching his head as this is the second engine he has recomended that is not a truely Plug-an-Play. The 1st was a 1996 ford explorer vin code X. Nothing seemed to match on that one, wiring, flywheel orbolt patteren..
My question is will this 98 engine work or should we be looking for a 99 or an early 2000 engine.
I do hope this is not too much nor too little information for you to assist us,,
