ok i took the 88 out today and drove it to a couple of parts stores to look at good floor jacks. well i would be in and out in bout 5 minutes and when id get back outside it wouldnt wanna start. it would act like the battery was dead. then i would stop and then try it again and it would start right up. any ideas? maybe the starter is getting to hot? or what?

Yeah, I'd be looking at the starter first.

remaned. the timing is bumped up to 13* or 14* not sure. but never had this problem when it was somewhat cold as far as air temp goes. but its 70* outside so the truck is running warmer. but im not sure.

The slightly advanced timing can be a contributor, you might back it off to 10* and try it.

A timing light is inexpensive and not hard to use... you oughta invest in one...

And the timing is prolly the issue here... 10* should fix it...

if it acts like its low battery when hot you gotta chek your ground wires..

o had that with the F250

a newer ground wire fixed it right up..

begin by cleaning the grounds on the chassis where the battery goes.

Get a new starter from Napa not a reman and that oughta fix it my 85 did the same thing and I thought it was the alternator but dad thought it was the starter so he put a new one on there and it fixed it. If it aint pingin and aint always crankin hard then the timings fine.

im not gonna go spend money on another starter. just cant afford that. got one that starts the truck up just fine when cold other than a slight chug alug and then it fires. thats just because the timing. the crank stop crank stop and then it fires that problem is only when its hot.
