79 400 worn out?

UHHHHmmm. OK. I just did a compression test. I got 92-100-92-100, 105-105-100-95..... is this sucker worn out? since it's off season for me, I could goof around with this engine till spring, and come out of hibernation with a new attitude....opinions?

it was so guttless anyway, I was going to do the usual 351m-400 cam, intake, lifters, 4bbl upgrade....

next part of question.... would any of you just slap rings in this old work truck, and go?

Wow thats getting pretty down on compression. Looks like it is time to start thinking about a rebuild.

go .030 over... flat top pistons.. cam and if you can find em some cleveland heads.. and also a 4bbl intake and good 700ish CFM carb.. depending on how hot of a cam you have..

x a bazillion. He's a god when it comes to 335 series motors, and from what I hear a nice guy as well.

You can't do that.

as cylinders wear they don't wear perfectly round. that's they they get bored out ,to return them to a a round configuration

Some low or mid-milers get away with just a honing but hi-milers usually require a boring out,

Nice try though. ;)

Great guy...he's stopped to talk to me and advise me even though the money doesn't go his way.

Getting a little worn, but I'd say it's far from dead. Compression is close to being withing 10% all the way around.

Depends on how much coin you're willing to drop. Personally, if the engine is on it's downhill side, I'd rather do it all at once...and that can get pricey.

Don't forget a good timing set as well. But as mentioned earlier, I'd give TMI a call. Here again, depending on your budget, he'll advise you on the best way to go.

Nope
