I got the email from them in their email advertisement and thought, it was about time. Mine is still in show condition with the exception of some noticeable scratches right in the front. It's an original piece and although anodized aluminum is hard to maintain and/or redo, there's something to say about having an original piece from 1977. I've been struggling over this one.

I'm waffling on this. While I'm glad to see it, it's still LMC...so I choose not to be a guinea pig. That said, if you have a good straight grille, I'd rather just have it stripped and chromed.

BTW...Mark, if you read this, you gonna be heading to NC any time?

It wouldn't be any cheaper at all, right around the same price for a good chrome job. I'm sure you could probably find a shop willing to do it for $3-400, but I'd be willing to bet your chrome would be chipping within the year.

True...and I've yet to hear anything bad about this particular part...but as mentioned, it's still LMC. IIRC, ronzi said the fit was perfect on his truck and thickness was on par with OEM.

So far so good on my LMC 79 shell. Its been on only 4 months now but it still looks new so far. My only gripe is the price but I needed one so what are ya gonna do? Ive been worried about the chrome peeling and how well they will stand behind thier "lifetime guarentee" but we will see. Im glad they have started offering the older shells.

I know it's a very different part, and could be made through a different process, but I wasn't happy with the one chrome item I bought from LMC.

A couple years ago I bought a set of their chrome license plate lamps in the spring--and they were peeling and rusting by the end of the summer.

I know those lamps aren't expensive anywhere you go--but to rust with in three months? And not even in the winter salt? (my truck goes in the garage in the winter) That--along with everything else I've heard-- was enough for me to decide to never buy from LMC again.

Edit: Ronzi: Your grille shell does look great, and I truly hope it holds up for you.

If they made one for the 72 I might try one on it and put that 5 year warranty to work. While its LMC its also steel and it wont dent as easily as the stock aluminum ones do.

I don't have any trips planned. I just satrted an addition so I'll be busy for a couple months.
Were'nt you taking a second trip to nags head area or have you already done that ?

Yeah...already took that trip for the TGW event. No biggie, as long as you still have the parts earmarked for me, I'm good and I'm sure we'll meet up some time.

I see that LMC is now offering the steel chrome grill shell for 73-77.
What Ford truck of this vintage came with a chromed steel grille?

None, the last chromed grille was used in 1961.

It's anodized aluminum, and Carpenter is remaking these again, so it might be a DC repop.

LMC is a "middleman" operation, they don't have much of anything they list in their catalogs. They use the J. Paul Getty method of making a buck.

When you send in your order, they use your money to buy the parts elsewhere...sometimes down the street at an autoparts store or Ford Dealer.

Well...'needs a lot of work' is quite ambiguous and relative. What's alot to yo, might be too much or hardly anything for someone else. That said, it's tough to pass up a $750 truck. But I'll say I have bought runners with good bodies for a couple hundred, but I've also bought parts trucks for more than $1000.

But, since I'm the dumbest guy on FTF, it doesn't count for much. :/
