4.0 belt....Info

I changed the serpentine belt on the 03 ranger
the truck has 43k miles since new and is (was) the
original belt. but i thought it was time to change it because
i only drive this truck to and from Idaho and Arizona and
didn't want to be changing the thing on the side of the road
in Jackpot Nevada. here is a list of interchange for the 4.0
motor with AC and standard pulleys. starting with the OEM
Motorcraft JK-6873-EA
Gates K060866
AC-Delco 6K866
Dayco 5060865
Goodyear gatorback 4060868
I bought the Goodyear belt because Autozone had it and it was
only 27 dollars everyone else wanted ALLOT more Checker/Kragen
wants 42 Dollars? i hope someone has found this information helpful
I also put the old belt in a zip-lock bag and will keep it in the truck
so some time in the future i will have it in an emergency..........
and I have payed it forward by posting some thin useful

Another suggestion is if you save your old belts (as I do) write on the baggie (or whatever, I usually re-use the cardboard tag from the new belt) what vehicle the belt is for, just so you don't get confused later on.


I've got the Gatorback belt in both my vehicles, too. It's held up well for a long time now in the Ranger; the Escort's only been in there since this summer.

Don't you think that a Guy that would replace a belt
that is NOT bad or broken would be forward thinking
enough to Write down the date and mileage along with
the interchange. both on the cardboard belt retainer and
the truck log. Not that having this old belt in the baggy in
the truck that it came from wouldn't be enough to Know
where it came from?

A better response would have been

That was what I intended to type when I hit reply "thanks", but then I got distracted by the thought of labeling them, and forgot to type it.

So-

Thanks for posting this- it's a great tip for anyone who doesn't do it, and a good reminder for all of us to at least think about the condition of the belts on our vehicles.

Yeah, I did. But I've been surprised in the past how few people do that...and figured someone out there reading this might get some use out of the mention of it.

I shift toolboxes vehicle to vehicle depending on how far I'm driving. Wouldn't be too hard for a belt to wind up in one that moved, and be in the wrong vehicle after a while.
