3G upgrade in a dent

Hey fellas...simple enough question. Do you use the same process for a 3g alternator upgrade in a dentside as you do in later model trucks? I don't see it being any different, but I only ever see write ups on the upgrade for '80+ trucks, and wanted to make sure it was as straight forward and there wasn't much difference when it came to wiring. Thanks.

I think Tex asked this awhile ago but I can't correctly remember......if you do it and it is different I wanna see a write-up......even if it ain't different...those OCD picky people might need it done on a 70's instead of an 80's....you know how some people are.....

Yeah I remember Tex asked about the 3g a while ago, but there wasn't a definitive answer if the 70's were any different than the later models. I wouldn't think there would be...but I just wanted to make sure before I get any surprises and I end up getting confused. For the record...I hate electrical work...so when it comes to it...I need step by step instructions...haha.

I"m just going to do with the kit. New 3g all the wires and stuff you need 200 bucks, tired of pulling stuff outta junk yards, time to go all new :)

I dont think it's the same Ben... There's a couple electrical harnesses that plug into the 3G alternator (for the voltage regulator), in addition to the thick charge cable, that I think are different on older trucks... Thought you may be able to convert the harness to make it work with yours... Either way, I don't believe it's bolt on-- you'd probably have to cut and splice some wires.

Plus-- isn't your truck a V-belt?

You got a link to the kit you're using Tex????

Alright Chris...didn't know if there would be any splicing required. Only person I know who has done a 3g in a dent is Lee, and he said he'd get me the info once it warmed up. And yes, it is a v belt. I may just end up going with the big amp single wire alternators from JBG...but I didn't wanna have to drop that kinda coin.

Alright thanks Tex. If it's not gonna be as easy as I thought it was gonna be, and if it's gonna cost as much as that kit, I may as well just bite the bullet with the JBG $200 one wire units. Thanks for the info fellas.

The ones JBG sales sound like there needs to be allot of mods made..
These one have internally regulated and all the needs to be done is run the new wires that comes with it.
I've all ready talked to the man who makes this kit few times and he made it sound much easier then the other kits and upgrades i've read about.
