I will start by saying I am FAR from a rookie on repairs. I have run plow trucks for 20 years and repaired them. I have wrenched my own stuff for 35 years. Just did tie rods and sleeves. Ball joints are toast at 76K. Books says take off the lower control arm, torsion bar, tear it all out, must replace control arm (ball joint not replaceable)! Hello, why does the replacements and old have circlips? My question is what's the trick to getting the lower ball joint out without a major disassembly.I have the circlip out of the old one and a jack is holding up the truck hoping the think will pop loose. The guys at the machine shop will have thier way with me if there is a trick to it. And I take it to them to get it pressed out.

Go to A parts store that will rent tools and get a ball joint press.
