Alright fellas...I know we have a thread for this, but I feel this one deserves a thread all to it's own:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Vint....c0.m245&_trkparms=72:317|65:12|39:1|240:1318

At first glance, nothing special...but take a look at the VIN and it says it's a '77. I thought the first cc 4x4's were in '78. I know that it is easy enough that the door could have been replaced on what appears to be a '79 truck (in which case the grille would have been swapped too). However, on a couple sites I frequent...there have been a couple guys that say they have seen extremely laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate model year '77 cc 4x4's with documentation and frame VIN conformation. So basically the truck is an extreeeeeeeeeeemely early '78 with whatever was left over from '77, and is titled as a '77. Anyone with thoughts, facts, opinions?

I wonder why there is no title, only a bill of sale.

Probably because it's really a '79...but the point I was really interested in was if there really is a mythical numbers matching 77 cc 4x4.

Bed don't match the cab, no pics of the left side, no title...

Somehow, I doubt it's a numbers-matching anything.

I realize THAT particular truck is probably pieced together. I just thought it was odd that I have heard 3 different stories in the last 2 weeks from reliable sources that know their stuff with numbers matching scenarios. And the ebay listing was enough for me to post here and get the real scoop.

I'm surprised Bill or Dennis didn't answer in this thread.

I questioned the seller but didn't receive an answer from him nor was the communication posted ,just like most of these guys and their frankentrucks.

Alright...what are the chances of the other scenarios though? A late late late 77 being produced which is basically a 78 but with certain 77 attributes, namely grille and VIN decode? Again, I don't have all the details on those rigs, but is it even a possibility?????

I didn't mean that truck in particular...I meant other 77 250 CC 4x4's I've read about lately from pretty reliable sources. I was just wondering in general if a truck like that could slip through cracks and actually exist.

I think It would be possible but very unlikely. F26 should only refer to regular cabs and the X26 for supercabs both 4x4s, and the X26 starts in 78. I also think that if it was a very late 77, I would think the grill would have the same shell, but with round headlights indicating 78.

But, I'm sure there are "odd" trucks out there. I have a buddy who has a 77 F250 4x4, not sure what the vin says, but has the 77 grill, open knuckle front D44HD front end, divorced T-case, in cab tank, but also has a rear tank. Now I'm almost sure the bed has never been touched so why the rear tank, but I'm going to have to track down the truck and look it over to see what the VIN is.
