05 Ranger question

On an 05 Ranger 4.0, when removing the fan clutch assembly from the water pump, is it absolutely necessary to use the special Ford tools or is there a work around? I have the CD for an 04 Ranger, I assume it's the same setup as an 05. BTW, what's a ballpark time for a water pump R&R on said 05? Thanks in advance.

Warrenty time is 1.2, 2.5 hrs would be acceptable for cust pay. No you don't need the special tools but it would be easier, you can get a universal set of fan clutch wrenchs. Have seen guys use air hammers to knock it loose but stuff gets broken that way.

Thanks for the heads up guys, it's appreciated.

A little background on this one. Vehicle is owned by a buddy of mines neighbor; said neighbor's mechanical ability is fine for maintenance but he seems to lack confidence on what I'd call average skill level repairs. A few days ago he was flushing and changing coolant (49,000 miles on the clock) and he filled the radiator with water for a flush. Unfortunately, he got distracted for about five minutes with the engine running, came back, and the water level was way low, according to him. He finished the job and now there is an intermittent squeak when the engine is running. Intermittent means squeak-stop-squeak, etc and this happens 100% of the time the engine is running. It's known to be the water pump doing this, it was confirmed by using a piece of hose as a stethoscope. I heard it today via phone, it's there, you know it, but it's not ugly. I told him to run it awhile, maybe 100 miles, and keep his fingers crossed. Time will tell, but me thinks a new pump is on the horizon. It's not leaking coolant at this time, but I'm suspicious regarding the seal being damaged. However, I doubt it'll blow and leave the guy on the side of the road. Any thoughts?

Sometimes getting coolant on the belt will give a squeek also, i've had belts i've gotten a drip of coolant on that I washed off and still made noise. Let it go for awhile and see what happens, im thinking that 5 min of running wouldn't kill the pump, but anything is possible.
