    Fram vs Motorcraft 6.0 Powerstroke

The answer is this... Racor is the OEM manufacture of the 6.0L oil and fuel filters and housings. They own and control the patent for the housings and the filters!! As it relates to OEM spec'd filters, you need to use Racor, Motorcraft or one of the few companies that buy the Racor filter...

    Motorcraft Transfer Case Fluid

This is a great topic and Ford has a lot of people confused. Many of us with 4X4's have always used used Mercon in our transfer cases (as per our manuals... as mine does). What is funny, is that Ford put out a bulletin that Mercon V replaces Mercon (when they discontinued Mercon)... so even my...

215,000 Miles And I had To Spend Some Money!!!

Smell in can was due to cracked turbo inlet pipe (flex joint) and to a lesser degree the leaking exhaust manifold gaskets. The factory does not use gaskets.... so they leak over time.... the fix is to use gaskets.

    Low oil pressure

make sure you have an OEM oil filter cap and an OEM oil filter. Will-fit caps and filters will allow the drain valve to remain open and the oil that is to stay in the oil filter housing drains out... so your motor is starved for oil until the oil filter housing fills back up.

    Friend in need, again

take truck to dealer the night prior... so dealership mechanic can hook up the computer to the truck and check it all out with a cold motor. This is vital when looking for starting issues, injector issues and the like. Yes, I know what I am talkig about... I replaced all 8 injectors when I...

215,000 Miles And I had To Spend Some Money!!!

With 215,000 miles on my 2003, 6.0L Excursion, I had to spend some money on replacing the following: 1) New turbo 2) New driver's side turbo inlet pipe. 3) Install exhaust manifold gaskets and new bolts My turbo stuck in the open position, which resulted in poor performance and...

New Shocks & Steering Stabilizer (Bilstein Brand)

The Excursion has a front sway bar already. The Hellwig is just a larger diameter one.... but I am not going to spend the money for it.... I will just stay with stock. There is no rear one... so that is what makes me wonder if I need or want one... and it just bolts on?

New Shocks & Steering Stabilizer (Bilstein Brand)

Since installing new Bilstein shocks and a new steering stabilizer it sure makes a huge difference. Ride is siffer and controlled but not harsh... and yes, there is a difference between "controlled and "harsh". I am now interested in adding a Hellwig sway bar in the rear... not sure way or if...

    Diesel Leak

Had mine replaced at the dealer due to a "weaping leak". Had to have dealer do it (I have no idea what I am doing) and due to Vince not making "house calls" and not visiting KC in quite a while!!! Have no idea if I have more power or not, but I was told that it would definately help with...

New Shocks & Steering Stabilizer (Bilstein Brand)

Bilstein is the OEM supplier to many brands (Mercedes comes to mind), trucks and RV's. Their website is very informative. They have a lifetime warrenty for th truck they were bought for and so far, they have stood behind their warrenty... and boy, do they stiffen up the ride of our large and...

New Shocks & Steering Stabilizer (Bilstein Brand)

What they got was more business from me... I bought their streering stabilizer for $75.00 + shipping instead of buying another Rancho one. I am sure the Bilstein is better quality anyways (along with C/S)... so for an extra $20.00, I went with the Bilstein stabilizer (to go along with the...

New Shocks & Steering Stabilizer (Bilstein Brand)

I have been a fan of Bilstein brand shocks since my OEM's went out at 50,000 miles or so. 50,000 miles: I put on new front and rear Bilstein shocks anf the ride was like and day. 110,000 miles: Bilstein's warrenty department replaced the fronts for free and their C/S was great (Bilstein's...

    Trasmission Issues???

Does anyone know of an aftermarket "Y-pipe" (both pieces) for my 2003 6.0L? Are there any aftermarket pipes that are solid metal tubing and not with the flex pipe which the Ford/OEM parts have (and where the leaks happen)? I have a stock motor, so what I have seen includes parts for those...

    Trasmission Issues???

When fixing the "y-pipe" would you replace both peices or just the one that is leaking... and how do you determine? Or would you replace both parts since the turbo and parts will already be out and now is just the time to replace both... since the other may go at some time as well?

    Need Help!!!

Vibration can be caused by: 1) Tires/wheels out of balance. 2) aligment of truck 3) Front stabilizer steering/shock (causes vibration to be felt in steering wheel). Mine is bad/leaking and is being replaced. Rancho or Bilstein offers ones for your trucks with Bilstein's being the best...

    Trasmission Issues???

Is the "Y-Pipe" a one or two piece part? On another site, someone posted that the part was around $200... which is a whole lot less than the $600 than my local Ford dealer quoted me!!! So either my dealer is really proud of their part or the other part & price is too good to be true... but...

    Trasmission Issues???

With 204,000 miles on my truck, I am now suffering from exessive exhaust smell in the cab of my Excursion. I think it is coming from my "Y-Pipe"... as it is most notable upon start up and when at stop lights. As well, if my enviromental control unit is on it is bad... turn it off (so no fresh...

    Trasmission Issues???

Today it warmed up here in KC and was sunny... so I was able to turn off my heat. With my enviromental control unit in the "off" position, I had no fumes or smells in my truck upon start-up or at stop lights!!! So with that said... I guess that the "recirculation" of fresh outside air and...

    Trasmission Issues???

Yep... that's what I am having to the tee. 1) Tranny fluid drained and refilled. 2) Internal and external filters replaced. 3) Transfer case drained and refilled. 4) All was cleaned up with Brake-Kleen (no no oily residue anywhere). 5) Fluids topped off after motor was warmed up and run...

    Trasmission Issues???

Thanks.... as always. On a seperate note... Has anyone heard from Vince or "Black-SnapOn" in a while? I tried calling him last Friday and his phone was disconnected (I only call every 6 months when I have a truck question) and I sent him a PM and he has yet to reply)??? I am also surprised...

    Trasmission Issues???

Thanks... I will try. Since an Excursion has insulation around the flex pipe, how do I see what is leaking or not? What is the secret here... or will I still see smoke? If I want the "Y-Pipe" replaced, what is the "preferred" cost to have it done (labor and parts) that I should be looking...
