I nearly forgot to tell you guys... We had a little shindig at my moms house last night and Tom (the guy up the street with the shop that I always use) came over with his new car...

08 or 09 (not sure) Challenger SRT8. Yessir, the freakin FAST one. He's had for a while now (along with one of the new Charger R/T's) but I hadn't seen it in person until last night. He pulled up around 9pm and I about jumped outta my seat. Told him "holy crap I haven't seen this thing yet! Will you take me for a ride?" He says "Go ahead and take it for a spin. Turn the A/C off when you juice it to really make her scream." Oh god...

Jump in and fire it up with the push button start, which is pretty damned neat. Put it in reverse and the dash lights up with a backup cam... Jeez this thing is dressed up like a goddamn SPACE SHIP. Get it out onto the main drag (2 lane road out in the country by my moms place). Get her out onto the street and threw the pedal down about half to 3/4 and that damned thing scared the CRAP outta me. I've never experienced speed like this. The 1st-2nd shift damn near snapped my neck. Got it up the road and did a u-turn and tried again, this time thinking I was more prepared for the speed. Nope. Stomped it and by the time I had a chance to say "holy s**t" out loud, I looked down and it was already at 65mph  I couldn't freakin believe it; coulda snapped my fingers at 0mph and by the time the noise was done I'd be at 60mph  I asked him when I got back and he said it's got a feature that tracks your fastest 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc. He said the car told him that his fastest one so far is ~4.5 seconds

It was a freakin awesome experience. If you can get your hands on one of these things HOLD ON TIGHT!!

Oh by the way, just to add to the details. His looks just like the picture above. Hemi Orange w/ carbon fiber stripes. When he was in the process of ordering it he asked us what color he should get. I was undecided on the hemi orange but since seeing some of the other colors on the road, and seeing his up close-- NO COMPETITION. The color of this car freakin HOTT.

I've never ridden in one but I love the looks. #2 in the looks department to the mustang and this body style blows the camaro out of the water.

Ryan

agreed. but i think the mustang and the challenger tie in looks department.

They are GREAT at what you did... 1/4 and running off and leaving ricers in the dust.

But I'v heard everybody complain about, when you through it a curve, it's plows like a school bus! (Ok, maybe I exaggerated that a *LITTLE*)

Must be nice having rich friends Chris! :wasntme:

I am not a Chevy guy at all, but I think the Camaro looks tougher than the Challenger.

I love the look of the challenger, just serious old school muscle.

Thats awesome you got to take it for a spin. :D

Was it still alright that it was an automatic in a performance car of that caliber?

Yeah my brother was givin' him crap about the auto when I got back but to be honest, if you want the fastest possible ride, you probably need an auto. Like I said-- the 1-2 shift about snapped my neck into 2 pieces... I don't think I'd be capable of shifting a stick fast enough to do that...

Mustang GT: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=10&article_id=7639&page_number=2

The Sterling Grey Metallic car in these photos is the GT that put down a 0–60 run of 5.3 seconds
Challenger SRT8: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=6&article_id=6455

According to the factory, 0–60-mph sprints can be clocked in the low 5-second range
So, almost same acceleration as a Mustang GT :rolling laugh:

EDIT: I just ran across the Camaro SS page: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=10&article_id=8020

and it says this..

despite a curb weight of 3860 lb., the Camaro SS hits 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, 100 mph in 10.5 sec. and thunders through the quarter mile in 13 flat at 111.1 mph. That compares spot-on with the 5-speed automatic-equipped 425-bhp Dodge Challenger SRT8, which hit 60 mph in 4.7 sec. and ran the quarter in 13.0. But the Camaro SS is considerably quicker than the standard of the class, the 2010 Ford Mustang GT, which makes do with a smaller, 315-bhp 4.6-liter V-8 and a 5-speed manual. The Mustang was 0.7 sec. off the Camaro's pace to 60 and 0.8 sec. slower in the quarter mile.

The Mustang (the only live axled one of the bunch too) also handles the best. It puts up skidpad numbers comparable to the Nissan 370Z and Porsche Cayman. All in a bigger car with room for two more passengers, and an all American appearance.

Something else to consider- especially in this class car. The Mustang will roll "out the door" (not sticker price, but actual selling price) for about $6000-$8000 less than a Camaro, and about $5000 less than the Challenger. That's $175-$220/mo in payments- which is a lot.

5-8000 will more than buy a supercharger that will put you close to 500 RWHP...

I'm thinkin 'ecoboost' 2011 mustang... 2010 was the aethetic upgrade. Now the patient will have it pay off for a performance upgrade.

Ryan

I also think they are going to offer the 5.0L cammer in the Mustang to replace that 4.6L. I would love to see an Ecoboosted Shelby GT350 (matches the 3.5L displacement too. :D)
