Who makes the "Longest Lasting" Truck...

Looks are always subjective. When the Chevy uses all the chrome on the bumpers at the front corners......let's just say that same vomit taste reappears (pass the Tums, please)

But like the Ford, when the bumpers are color keyed it helps a LOT.

The Tundra also uses too much chrome on the grill surround.

I want to do this treatment to mine, which IMHO (read subjective) leap frogs the looks to near Sierra beauty.

Wow... I was thinking the photo you posted seriously looks like hell... it looks like the Toyota designers got their inspiration for the tundra from a praying mantis... :suspicious:

Too easy. Exhibit 1.

1/2T Silverado's don't have the chrome bumper caps, only the HD's (look at mine in the sig). I actually think the problem with the HD's isn't the bumpers, it's the little wheels/tires they put on them. A little lift, decent wheels, and

Still pass on the Chevy......it is the bumper caps to me, and the too large headlight to grill ratio.

The Sierra looks like the last Super Duty to me....probably why I like it!!!

When my final decision was being made between the Denali and the Tundra, the wife took one look at the GMC and axed if there was a lift kit available!!

That and the lack of rear A/C vents tipped the scales toward the Toy.

(unfortunately, the 150 was out of the running very early)

I run with scissors.
she hates it when i talk about my little car and how it is three years older than her big bad truck and has less problems!
Assuming you own the car in your sig, how many miles are on it? My Dad has a 2000 Escort ZX2 with just under 120,000 miles, and the only things that have been replaced are the outter tie rod ends, brakes, and tires. It's been very dependable.

Il always have at least one ford truck, but i wouldnt mind buying this 97 1500 Z71 Chevy down the road (drool)
You would soon become a pro at changing out the fuel pump smilietease

And I don't even want to hear about those fantom Silverados built in Mexico. Here's my doorpost. 93% domestic content, per window sticker.

It's hard to tell since you're zoomed in close, but is your "Made with pride" really crooked?

And my 22 month daughter has the following to contribute... it's 2:30 in the morning and she won't go to sleep and has an overwhelming desire to help me reply to this post. Anyway,...

unlike the the tundra, the superduty's front end styling was made like that specifically for a useful puspose. the headlights are on the bottom because the truck sits up high. they moved the lights to the bottom for better visibility during the fog/rain/snow(bad weather). if they didn't move the lights the amount of visibility was way down and they would be blinding anyone in front. thats fords way of saying (function over form) plus in my honest opinion the tundra bed sides are HUGE!!! and it looks like it sits really low to the ground for a 4wd truck. to me the tundra spent way to much in styling (form over function in this case.) i do have to say toyota started (or rekindled a competition) between the half ton trucks with there new tundra. chevy/ford/dodge have been fighting since the beginning but its been on the down low recently (90's) the tundra came along and BAM half ton truck battle all over again...BUT the tundra says it can tow this and do this. now if i really really wanted to tow and haul a bunch of stuff....i would just get a 3/4 ton truck.....thats why chevy/ford/dodge make them.... 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton trucks are there for a reason.i wouldn't put that much of a burden on a 1/2 ton truck when i can just get a 3/4 ton. i do like how the tundra commercials have the guy holding the JD power award and he's wrestling it to put it down like it weighs 120 lbs, when in all actuality. it probably weighs 3lbs. also (this is directed to all new trucks) WHATS WITH THE 20" RIMS!....AND HAVING AN OFF ROAD PACKAGE!... the larger the rims the smaller the sidewall of the tire. smaller sidewall = less give for the tire for going over rocks, trees, mud and so on off road...making for a really bad stuck situation and not being able to get traction in spots you really need it! im a very utility kind of person. a truck thats flashy doesn't do it for me. a truck that can go head on into a forest and not look back perks my eyebrows up. just my 2 cents

i hate being sick.........(just throwing that in there)

So all the past Super Duties were function follows form????

(Rhetorical question, the previos SD's were waaay better looking to me)

About as high as a current 150......

Yes, it is too low......but about on par with the other 1/2 tons. The fake 4WD (actually AWD) Denali is lowest of them all.....but with no low range, it's not really for any off road use.

Agreed, especially concerning drivetrain and brakes......the Toy has made everyone step up.

Well now, considering Ford has the most inflated tow and payload numbers out there, you cannot possibly be saying Toyota is the only one touting this.

But I do agree that it's silly to tow the numbers being claimed for any 1/2 ton.

However, for grins and giggles, check out the brake size of the Tundra compared to all the current 3/4 ton offerings. Check out rear end ring size(the 3/4 ton trucks do use the more durable full floater)

Check out Consumer reports tow tests with 7400 pound trailer including the diesels.

The TRD package (yes, I hate that acronym, glad Ford doesn't put FRPP stickers on their truck) uses 18" rubber......may not have the best sidewall for off roading but the rims are needed to clear the massive 14" rotors and 4 piston calipers.......form follows function:)

how come the f-150's towing and hauling ratings are wrong or bloated?

It really comes down to what you like. Also, what does TRD stand for?

IIRC it's like Toyota Racing Development or some crap.

Speaking of crap [childish comments] they could make it an... urban racing truck! And call it TURD!!! lmao! [/childish comments]

Although I have to add, I like the look of the 2001 ish Tacomas. Cool looking little truck.

From post #37:

Color matching the Super duty grill helps a great deal......still can't get over the 'droopy" eyes.

Ford's towing/payload numbers are a lot of fluff.

The number you always hear about are a one off truck.....regular cab, long bed with 4.10's and 8200# GVW; I'm fairly certain you've never seen one or probably wouldn't buy one.

The rest of the lineup, to include super and crew cabs, there is very little difference in the numbers.

Stupid marketing hype........the initial stopping distances are all fairly close; in fact, tires have as much to do with initial stops as brakes.

Where the Tundra brakes shine for me so far is that after 20,000 miles, there is no warped rotors.......which is unheard of for ME concerning my Fords.

I need the 4th set on my 250 now at 70,000......I have decided not to go OEM. But it's tough to spend near $3,000 (Brembo? Baer?)on a truck only worth $10k or so.

you don't have to go brembo or baer. there are some very good companys out there that sell excellent brake products. most warped rotors comes from hard stopping, which overheats the rotors and in turns warps them. try getting drilled and/or slotted rotors. all the brakes i have installed on trucks and cars for that matter at the shop i work at we have never had a problem unless they go with cheap stuff and we warn the customers about the longevity of the product.

It really comes down to what you like.

I'm torn on that statement......still like Fords better. Root for 'em in NASCAR, Off road racing (CORR and SCORE etc..)

I was just ready for something different. And after driving my sister's Mark LT for over 1,000 miles, driving the Denali on 3 or 4 test drives and driving the Tundra 5 or 6 times......it was nearly a coin toss between the GMC and Tundra.

The Tundra has a much larger rear area in the Crew Cab, the rear A/C vents and the real 4WD decided it.

The Ford drivetrain was too far behind IMHO.....which is why I am upset the 6.2 is on hold again!!!

Dude, phonetically, it already is T(u)RD. But what usually happens right before a turd??

You FRPP......(Ford Racing Performance Parts):)

Want the biggest debate ever???

bring up drilled or slotted rotors at cornercarvers.com.....LOL!!!

School me on some products.

I've gone OEM twice and re-surfaced once or twice.

Yes, I may drive hard but it's the same as I drive everything.

I IMMEDIATLY put 14" Brembos on the Mustang GT because I knew the tiny 12.XX" rotors wouldn't last long.

At our GM meetings, engineers are quick to point out that the size of the rotor has little to do with the stopping distances. There are many other factors, including The number of pistons. (We use 4, they use 2). Ditto the size of the ring and pinion gear.

That rotor thing has been an ongoing Ford issue on the SD's.

re: the Rr AC vents. Anyone that's been in a GM product in hot weather knows nobody does AC better than the General. Engineering Certification for GM involves a 50 degree cool-down in 7 minutes.... in Death Valley... in the summertime. That's all product lines, something that gave GM Korea's engineers fits with the Aveo (they had to redesign the dash and HVAC unit).
