Straight up timing...a cam with around .500" of lift, and that 4bbl setup isn't doing anything if you don't let the engine breathe...so get a set of headers. As for heads...you're pretty limited.

ok yeah ive read theres not much to do with the 400 but im gonna try i see you got two of them?

Here's an article of how my engine's was modeled after to bring it up to 500 hp.

Heads, you can go to aluminum Edlebrock.

This is what was put in mine:

The funny thing is the NOS cast iron one's dyno'd better than the aluminum....don't understand this and neither does the PO.

Nothing wrong with that, but there are better options IMO than a hodge podge of engine innards...434 comes to mind....cost would be close going off Ken's link to that article.

I hear ya.

We didn't quite go to that amount of money, about $5k into my build, not counting the block which we already had.

I don't know why they didn't put a bigger motor in there. I'll ask.

First thing I'd do is determine what gearing you actually have. No point in throwing money in an engine if it's your gears holding you back. If everything is all stock, like you say...you'll either have 3.55's or 4.10's. A spin of the rear wheel and you'll be in the ball park.
