Actually, a modular wheel is an assembled wheel of 2 or 3 pieces. Those are commonly referred to as "slots" or kidney bean wheels. Here are my 16.5" slots, recently polished. They were made by Superior Industries in Van Nuys, California in the 70s or 80s.
Take your rotor off, then unbolt the spindle from the steering knuckle. Then you can pull the shaft straight out through the hole in the steering knuckle. You don't have to remove the knuckle from the ball joints. As far as other parts, as long as everything is tight, put a new u-joint in it...
Ha, I can't say it runs good now, but it's much better than it was. We fixed a leaking EGR port, and blocked off the EGR because the valve was stuck. But the biggest improvement was bumping the timing up a little. He had it set to factory specs, but it's amazing how much a few extra degrees...
Taken today. This is my '79 F350 with my buddies' Highboy. He lives just a few houses down from me and built this truck just to beat around in over the winter. It is built with leftover parts from his other Highboy project, which he is building into a show truck. He is a junior in high...
That's not snow... this is snow:Those are 36s on my F350. I did get it stuck briefly trying to back out of this, but I was able to get it out with a little bit of throttle and rocking. Here is my old F150 on 35s and my quad as I was trying to plow the driveway. I had to plow everything...
The body was nice, besides the bed, which was much worse than the photo shows. It looked good from the outside due to all of the putty in the wheel arches, but the floor was gone, all of the crossmembers were bad, it was basically disintegrating from the inside out. But the worst part was the...
Thanks guys, it was a pretty nice truck and I loved the color. Even in the picture, the bed was pretty rusty, but the brown color hid a lot of it. The bed floor was nonexistant and the quarters were full of putty right above the rear wheels. If it wasn't for the swiss cheese frame it would...
Here is a pic of my first truck, a '79 F100 Ranger with a 302/C6. I paid for it by mowing grass in high school. It was in decent shape when I got it, but PA winters really took a toll on it. I started to fix it up while I was in college, but the frame was bad so I parted it out. I still have...
You know, that is a much smarter way to go, and cheaper in the long run, but I'll argue that it's a lot less fun! I've always wanted one of these old one-ton dumpers, and we are having a blast fixing her up and hauling everything with her. Legally, it can only carry about 3600lbs since it is...
The 77 F150 in my avatar is DOA. The 351M died while I was building the brown truck, so I retired it to parts donor status. It gave its rust-free southern bed and the hood with the scoop on it up to the brown truck, and the C6 is sitting on a stand getting ready to be swapped to the brown...
I ended up removing the factory swaybars on this truck just because I wanted some additional off-road flex. It still drives nice on the street, although to be honest I never drove it on the street with the swaybars on it. The half-tons have softer springs, so you may notice a little more...
$525 total for all four, brand new. They are blems, but I still haven't been able to find what is wrong with them. I figured for a truck that I don't drive very often, blems are fine.
Ya, I still have it if you are still interested. I don't get out to State College very often anymore since I transferred to another department here at work, but I will be out that way next week on my way to Scranton.
Ya, it was a real shame about the original tires, they were almost new with hardly any wear, and were holding air after sitting for 7 years, but they are dry-rotted badly with really deep cracks around the bead. I didn't feel safe running them on the road, although they would make great tires...
The hood scoop is not functional, it came on my old 77 (see avatar) and stayed on the hood when I swapped it over to the F350 since it is bolted through. It is an early 80s Mustang GT scoop. It will come off some day when I do the body nicer, but for now there are a lot of other things that...
Haven't updated this thread in a long time. Here is how the F350 sits now. Been sled pulling with it for the last year. Got the old aluminum slots polished up and a new set of 33x12.50 Cooper mud tires on them. Still a piece of crap, but looks decent from a distant.
So, I finally got the green truck to the track this past weekend. I had to thrash to get the truck back together in time to make it to the track, since I decided to rebuild the limited slip before I went. Since I was late to the track, I only got to make 2 passes.First pass: Did a small...
My uncle works for a fertilizer supply company, and his last truck was a 2000 Super Duty 2wd with 5.4/auto. When they got rid of it, it had 390K on it. Motor had never been rebuilt and still ran good. It didn't have an easy life either, spent most of its time delivering fertilizer spreaders...
I also realized that I've got to edit my profile, since both of the trucks pictured (77F150 and 05F150) are gone, and have been replaced with a 79 F350 and an 04 Super Duty Crew. The F350 is a 4x4 with a 460/C6, and is used for truck pulling/off roading. The SD is my daily with a V10/6spd...
Wow, haven't seen this thread in a while. I haven't done anything at all to the truck in over a year, just been driving the wheels off of it. Put 3000 miles on it this summer alone (it only comes out in the summer). I built a shop this summer and I've also been truck pulling with my 79 F350...
There is a guy on one of the other sites a few years back that dropped the front of his truck 3-4 inches using the stock beams, I think he cut the coils to get the drop, then took his truck to a shop that does big rig alignment and had the beams bent to correct the camber. Will only work if you...
Update on the progress of the 1 ton. When I originally bought this truck I had planned to take my time, build everything right the way that I wanted it. I'm trying to build a house this fall, so I really didn't have time to work on it now, and I had the '77 for heavy hauling, general beating...
Here is a link to the buildup thread of mine. Definately not as radical as yours, but I've got some work into it.http://www.fordtruckfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10839&highlight=f250+projectLooks like you are still running the I-beam setup, but what all did you do up there? It's...
So, obviously a serious body drop, bridge, bags, but what else? Lay down the goods on that ride. I love it. I have both a lifted 4wd and a lowered 2wd, so I like a dentside no matter what the attitude (altitude?). I also swapped my '79 grille for a '77 grille, just 'cuz I like them better.
Ya, but the last time I had it at the track was right after i completed the drop and the motor was stock, except for a 68-71 timing chain and dual exhaust. It ran a 15.60 at 88mph with the truck bogging hard off the line. Haven't made it back yet with the new setup, but will go back soon...
