This thread is about 6 months late for me. I just scrapped what was left of the supercab donor for my SC. Nobody wanted it!!! I tossed a LOT of stuff and the only taker I could find was a scrapper. The old 390 still ran althought it had a really bad oil leak and it took a case of oil to get it...
Update: The starter was still dragging but not every time. I replaced the positive battery cable in Advanced Auto parking lot and the guy walked out and asked me what was wrong. I told him the starter was staying engaged and he just shrugged and told me I have it installed too close to...
Yeah I pulled a bonehead move and had the ignition and the starter wires swapped on the solenoid. I was about to change the key switch on the cab when I looked at it again and figured out what I had done. Thanks for the reply and letting a bonehead like me hang around!!
I just got home from being stranded. Went to the county line to get some beer and when I got back in the truck it would click and make a faint squealing noise. Solonoid (sp?) right? I'm going to pick up a new one and go swap it out in the morning.
I've always checked the alt by pulling the battery cables while it was running. If the motor died it was a sign that the alt could be bad. It could be the wrong thing to do but it's always worked for me...
I had a 192 in it but on the dummy gauge it showed to be running pretty dang hot so I went to swap and just left it out all together. I hope this weekend to put a 192 in and call it done.
Sorry for the delay in reply, work has been crazy. I didnt have a tape to measure today when I went to swap cars out but I did snap a couple pictures as I was pulling up to stop lights.
Hey guys I have another question for you (imagine that, ME having a question). On my doors I have noticed the gap the window sits in is much bigger than what it should be. I havent taken it apart and looked inside the door but was wondering if there was a bolt or bolts that pull one side of the...
It's acutally shorter than 155" since one of the PO cut it from a long wheel base to be a short wheel base. I don't know that it even measures out the same as a swb SC does. I like the look of it though.
Ah... thanks for the info gents!! What's funny is I used to tell people I knew a lot about these old trucks. Now I know I dont know my butt from a hole in the ground :D
I had a 180 in there and it ran a little warm on the dash gauge (cant get the temp sensor out to but the new temp gauge thermometer in the spot). I pulled it and went without a stat. Why would you stay to not go with a 160? It's only running a little on the warm side and when summer hits...
Ok I was reading up on the fan clutch that was posted a day or two ago since my truck has been running a little on the warm side. I was thinking about doing the 3g upgrade and then the Mark 8 fan upgrade but after some searching and reading I may need to stick to my clutch fan set up.I...
Question: I'm cruising Bronco Graveyard looking at the cab seals and come across the kit they have called super something or another. Any insight on it? Any better kits to be had that dont cost $30 to ship?
According to the guy we talked to who was selling it for a neighbor it's a 79 that was built for mud racing. $5500 is the asking price. Sitting on 44's and has MANUAL steering. I looked up under the front fender well and you can see the engine since the inside splash guards have been removed...
It's got both. The dipstick on the passenger side has a rubber cap on it and I think it has been cut down because I only noticed it a week or two ago after I posted this thread. The dipstick on the drivers side is the one I actually use.
I'm supposed to go and talk to a paint guy monday or tuesday and get a price. I'd like to do a flat tan or OD green as this truck is only really driven on weekends and will see mostly fishing, hunting and camping. If the paint guy isnt talking prices I'm willing to cough up the cash to pay I'll...
Could it be that the linkage popped out? No stops sounds like it's not connected.By linkage I mean under the hood where the shifter hooks to the linkage that runs down to the tranny.

The guy I got it from is a welder by trade and from how straight it is, I believe it.Thanks!! I'm glad someone is enjoying it. I was worried about junking/cluttering up the forum with all my random questions so I figured I'd keep them on one thread to cut the mess down! hahaJohn part of the...
I'm sitting here looking at the door tag and it's been painted and I dont have anything to take off the paint with here. Here are the digits below the VIN755 UP X143 F2M G 16A06400 1978 57
From some of the stuff the PO's have done to this truck It wouldnt suprise me if they didnt match. I know that it sure feels like it has a higher stall TC in it a lot of times at take off. Guess it could be it's too high geared for the 35's and tired 351m too...
