Yeah painting the grille surrounds do hide aloooooooooooot of sins, scratches, dings, dents. Another note...I think they look reeeeeeeal good on solid color rigs. Don't really like them on tutones though...to me, the solid shell doesn't match the continuity of the rest of the scheme. Another thing to keep in mind, I've never seen a painted grille shell on a dent that didn't have paint scratched/scraped off with aluminum showing through within 6 months of being painted. I dunno if that has something to do with the quality of the spray job, or the paint has a problem adhering or something...but once that first scrape gets on there...it goes from looking unique to cheap and tacky.

If I had to paint a surround I'd probably use a chrome paint. That way the scratches would show so well. And rustoleum has chrome spray bombs

Does any of that chrome paint ever work????? I've tried a few different brands a handful of times, and I can never get it to look like it does on tv with a nice shine to it...mine usually comes out looking pretty flat.

The anodized aluminum makes it hard for paint to adhere. I've heard of products that can be sprayed on the surrounds to create a layer for paint to adhere but have never tried. To paint these right, the anodizing needs to be stripped off and prep from there.

And yes, I don't think the painted grills look good on two-tone trucks.

Just clicked the link I posted on the Black one I like and noticed it don't work 'smiliedoh' Anyway its the Black '75 SCS. Man that looks good. I would dang near sell ole Blue if I had that one:suspicious: ok maybe not sell Blue but I do like that truckYelloThumbUp

What is the frickin craze with ebayers lifting/leveling 2wd's to look like 4wd's...and even worse, what's up with all the 'blinging' of these old brutes:

Although, if I were into 2wd's...and it had different rims and tires...I think I just might like it.

Looks good...but he's smokin something serious if he thinks he'll get anywhere near 6500 for it...even in a good economy:

Definitely a fixer-upper and unoriginal...but I like it:

Ouch...too bad the fire dept. didn't keep this truck, might be in better condition. Being that it is a FD truck, it might actually only be a 29k mile truck...still think the asking price is a little high for all the body work it'll need:

To do a quality restoration takes some money (unless you start with a very nice truck to begin with and do ALL the work yourself) and the turnaround for these trucks usually don't make you gobbs of money.

I added up in my head what I had roughly in my Bronco without a frame off resto and came in just under 20K and I know I did not get everything I put into it in those figures. I'd have to get close to 30K to build a similiar one to sell and make a profit.

Lucky for me the guy I sold my green shortbed to in Tn last week ended up giving me cash, an NOS 78-79 grille shell and an 8' dual tank rust free box. The CC is going to have a lot of good parts to throw on it once I get it done with paint.

I bought this truck and owned it at one time. I bought it from another member at the other site. After redoing the cables, battery, and the whole brake system from the power brake booster down to the emergency brakes which I couldn't get to work. I would never re buy this truck and would would advise people to stay away from it it has a cracked frame on the right side behind the frame.

For $400, it could be a good parts truck or something maybe.

Damn cliff...good lookin out. The truck says it's in Salisbury, wonder why I've never seen it???? Does the current owner know the frame is cracked and is trying to hide the fact?

I would say yes because the owner that I bought it from told me and showed it to me. It got worse as I drove it and he bought it back after I did all the work on it and resold it after priming it all black. I lost a great deal of money on it.I am also glad the person that sold it to me and the person selling it now doesn't belong here as members.

I would hate for someone to buy it and get hurt or worse.

Our favorite seller has found yet another one. Only things I can pick out is...the interior is partial XLT and partially not. The bed shouldn't have a dummy gas door in 75. The passenger front 1/4 panel doesn't have the 250 emblem. And obviously, the 390 has been swapped in. I'd be skeptical about the swapped in rear D70 too...easy enough to say it has one and to the untrained eye, it's hard to tell the difference:

I wouldn't mind pullin this one from the weeds for $8-900:

Yet another highboy from this guy, nice looking truck but there's just something about this guy that sends up red flags for me, where in the world does he find all these "cherry" highboys in the middle of Idaho.

I've heard he trailers them in from all over the west coast...and Scott says he has a shop which I interpret as the guy does a hack job rebuild and some cheap paint.

Yeah...but the auction has only been going for 1 day 3 hours...still almost 6 days left...I bet it'll get close to 10k. But yeah it is pretty nice.
