i have a 1999 ford f150 4x4 and i want to know how to tell what type of transmission it has in it

i got a 1980 f150 4x4 and I broke some gears in the front differential and Im wondering if could just take the front driveshaft out and still drive it?

ive put two alternators and three voltage regulators on my truck and its stil overcharging any ideas why its still overchargingsmilieFordlogo
