  1. Exhaust temperature

Well, since my last post I have replaced the EGT gauge and installed the new one pre turbo. I have also removed the particulate trap and installed an intercooler. It's pretty common to see 1000 degrees on an incline and that's not towing anything. The turbo is a Garrett 1825818C91 1.10A/B, if...
  2. Alarm location

Nevermind. After much digging I found both, and was able to re-program.
  3. Alarm location

I was wondering where to locate my alarm. My truck is a 1997 F350, crew cab dually. Pretty sure the alarm is factory, but not positive. I'd like to know where it is located and where the valet switch is. Also, how do I disable the alarm until I get a new key fob? Any help would be great.
  4. WANTED Intercooler for 97 7.3l

    No, but will now. Thanks.
  5. WANTED Intercooler for 97 7.3l

I'm looking for a Banks intercooler. Sorry, I should have clarified that.
  6. WANTED Intercooler for 97 7.3l

I am looking for an intercooler for my 1997 F350 7.3l.
  7. Exhaust temperature

    This helps a lot, thanks.
  8. Exhaust temperature

I have a 1997 Ford crew cab dually, 7.3l with a Banks turbo/stinger and a Banks "calibration chip" installed. The truck seems to run great, but I am concerned about the exhaust temperature, (after the turbo). I was pulling my toy hauler to Bishop CA, very slight grade the whole way, and when I...
  9. Need help diagnosing

Turns out this was a blown tire on the rear inside drivers side. The tread separated, (the vibration), then blew, (the backfire). Guess I didn't check the tires good enough, must have been parked on the blowout. The good news is I know what happened, the bad news is it cost darn near a grand.
  10. Need help diagnosing

What opens this valve? Isn't there a point in the fuel line where I can check for water/dirt?
  11. Need help diagnosing

It hasn't done it since, but I haven't duplicated the same conditions, (speed, load mainly). Where is this valve you mentioned located? Are there any in line filters I can check. Sorry for my ignorance but this is my first diesel, and I have only owned it about 6 months.
  12. Need help diagnosing

The carrier bearing feels very solid, in fact I think I remember the guy I bought the truck from telling me he just had it replaced. The U-joints look good also.Any other suggestions?
  13. Need help diagnosing

Ok. But wouldn't that cause the problem consistently?
  14. Need help diagnosing

The truck is a 1997 F350 7.3 Crew Cab Dually. Today on my way home, it started feeling like a tire was out of round all of the sudden, like driving on a wash board. It quickly became worse, (within a mile) and as I slowed and was pulling over it became much worse, very violent kind of a...
  15. K&N Air Filter or ??

This truck has a K&N air filter, and recently I've read some not so good posts on them. What is everyone's take on these filters? And more importantly, what other options do I have?
  16. Service manual

Can anyone tell me where I can get a good service manual for a 97, (old body style) F350 crew cab, 7.3 Power Stroke? Hard copy or download?
  17. Exhaust temp

    Dumb question?????
  18. Exhaust temp

I don't mean to be a pest here, but this diesel newbie has another question. What is the max temp I should keep the exhaust under? Will it climb to the point of melting down pistons or the turbo under a load if not kept in check with the accelerator pedal?
  19. Do I need a block heater?

    Thanks guys
  20. Do I need a block heater?

I live in the High Desert of So. Cal. Winter temps at night are sometimes high 20s, low 30s, often between 30 and 40. Once every several years we will get a freak freeze and see teens. Do I need a block heater for my (new to me) 7.3 for any of these times?
  21. What oil to use

    Thank you.
  22. What oil to use

I'm sorry. I'm sure this has been asked to death. I did search, really I did. I just acquired a 97 power stroke 7.3, and was wondering what is the best oil to use. I think the previous owner said he used Delo 15w-40, but I'm not sure he was sure.
  23. Roller cam? Flat Tappet?

1990 F350 extended cab dually. 7.5l. Manual trans. Can anyone tell me if it is a flat tappet or roller cam motor? Or tell me how to find out?
  24. Broke off an exhaust mainfold bolt

Well, in the end, every option failed except drilling them out and re-tapping. Thanks for all suggestions everyone.YelloThumbUp
  25. Broke off an exhaust mainfold bolt

Well, I have almost finished tapping the front hole, (the right one in the picture). It is a little crooked, but not to bad. I think it will work.
  26. Broke off an exhaust mainfold bolt

When you say cherry red, do you mean the stud? Or the head around the stud?
  27. Broke off an exhaust mainfold bolt

If it comes down to it, is a Helicoil an option here?
  28. Broke off an exhaust mainfold bolt

The spiral piece is what I'm using. Any more force and I'm concerned it will break off.
  29. Broke off an exhaust mainfold bolt

I went and got a couple left handed drill bits, and drilled these holes. So far, as usual, the easy out is worthless. I tried the torch a few times, but the Mepp gas will only get it so hot.I'm thinking to keep using the left handed bits, increasing in size until I get to 5/16 and then try...
  30. Broke off an exhaust mainfold bolt

Sigh. Pulling the heads just isn't in the cards right now. To correct myself, the broken bolts are both on number 4, and the front one of number 5. The back bolt on 4 and the front bolt on 5 have been broke off for a long time, with no leaks, (no gasket, machined surface). I am considering...
