  1. Enamel or BC/CC paint

kustomizingkid, no problem taking care of the paint here! lol My '96 F150 4x4 reg. cab long box, Silver CC metallic looks like it came off the show room floor (except for the small rust area on top of the wheel housing, aarrhhgg). I try to wax/ polish my vehicles twice a year, once in the...
  2. Enamel or BC/CC paint

Mil1ion, my painter is going to use PPG's Deltron line as PPG was the only one I could find the EXACT color code / chip matches to the original, just in BC/CC rather than enamel. I posted the poll just to see what others would like / use. PS: i hope / think they have the silver / grey peeling...
  3. Enamel or BC/CC paint

Mil1ion, my '78 crew's color codes are AV (black and med silver poly), with racetrack trim. BC/CC look good here or enamel?
  4. Enamel or BC/CC paint

Just a quick poll to see what everyone's opinion is for paint on our 30+ year old trucks. Would most paint them with the original enamel paint to look really original OR use BC/CC that is easier to take care of but has a somewhat "plastic" look to the finish. Interested in your opinions!
  5. painted inner door panels

Got all the door panels painted for my Crew - do they ever look nice! kustomizingkid and ranger429 - I used the SEM plastic adhesion promotor along with the SEM Color Coat (Landau Black) - they look just like brand new ones if not better! Thanks for the advice guys.
  6. painted inner door panels

Ok thanks for the responses guys! Sounds like it's not too big of a deal to do then.
  7. painted inner door panels

Hey guys, just wondering if anybody has painted the inner door panels from a 73-79 truck/bronco. What steps did you use, paint products, etc and did they look like originals after they were painted? Would you paint another set if you had to do it again or buy repro ones? Thanks, Eric
  8. I miss my old

Mil1ion, would the part number for the CB antenna mast be the same for both the trucks/ broncos and the Mercury / Ford cars? ie. did ford use a different part number for the mercury CB antennas? Thanks for that bit of information!
  9. I miss my old

HI guys, since you all have way more junk yards in your parts of the country, could you be on the lookout for a Ford CB antenna for a 1978-79 Ford truck or bronco?? I am wanting one badly....if you don't know what they look like, Ranger429 has one on his bronco (look in this gallery / profile...
  10. This has got to be a misprint

Ya that seems like a lot of cash, but this price is for a PAIR (2) moldings. The NOS ones go for $70 a piece. And think you can buy both of those from DC reproductions? - think again. Every time I called about the right molding (I think it was the right, could have been the left), I got the...
  11. High dollar NOS grill shell

Bucks, even tho Bronco lists it in their catalog, they simply drop ship it from DC and DC is out of stock on grill shells. So you wouldn't get one from either place. BOTP sells both DC parts and imports - depends on the part. I'm starting to wonder about DC. I"ve called them wanting a...
  12. ***Wanted/Selling dent/bump parts***

Crewcab partsI'm looking for the following parts for a 1978 F250 Crewcab:Drip rail moldings: RH: D3TZ-2551726-A LH: D3TZ-2551727-AAlso: CB mast (the part that screws into the antenna base) D80Z-18A886-ACan anybody help me out - kinda lookin for NOS but anything that is in excellent...
  13. Getting Ready for Winter Storage

I believe I would keep the tank full of fresh gas to minimize condensation / tank rusting. If the tank if full 20-30 gals, you shouldn't need Stabil because of that large of quantity of fuel. The gas is blended with only 10% ethanol and will not hurt the fuel systems on these trucks. I run...
  14. HiPoParts Garage LED gauge kit

Dennis - back on post #10 you mentioned that "they have a chrome tape for that now". Who is "they"? Does it look as nice as OEM chrome striping? I would like to redo my A/C vents. Thanks,
  15. HiPoParts Garage LED gauge kit

Texas - after doing the LED light upgrade to all the lights, does your dimmer switch (for the dash lights) work as well as with the incadescent bulbs? I've heard different things: some say yes it works and others say dimmer doesn't work. what is your experience?
  16. This guy got the ebay shaft

Ranger429, just checked my '78 F150 4x4 parts truck for the firewall tag. It is there (with the VIN stamped in it) and it matches the VIN tag on the door. ;) I'm not sure about my 78 F250 Crewcab. It had been repainted before I got it and don't recall seeing the tag on the firewall. However...
  17. some time it"s worth the price

Bucks, did you order or try the Taiwanese weatherstripping before going the DC route or did you just bite the bullet up front and buy only DC w'stripping? Would like to hear if there was significant differences if you bought both. Thanks, Eric
  18. some time it"s worth the price

I"m not a fan of "Taiwanese" parts either. When I ordered all the weatherstripping for my 78 Crew (came from BOTP or BG, can't remember unless I look it up), the kit was manufactured by Precision, made in Taiwan. Dooohhh!! :( I have not used anything yet (truck is still at the painter). From...
  19. Progression of my exhaust

Unrulee - Can't wait to hear the finished product! Please post sound clips / vids!
  20. Applying racetrack trim

hey guys, thanks for the input. Think the unanimous vote is for s/s - that's what i was thinking too. Think I'll go with rivets thinking they will stay tighter longer. Texas - yea i've got all new plastic clips (and mostly all new DC moulding - except for my C/C parts) so nothing should be...
  21. Applying racetrack trim

I will be adding racetrack trim to my 78 F250 Crew. The original truck had the racetrack trim; however, in the course of the restoration, the doors and fenders (NOS) do not have any mounting tabs for the racetrack trim plastic holders. I'm presuming that my paint guy will have to drill holes...
  22. My build update

Buck, yea new trim (top and bottom) is expensive but cheaper than having someone redo old stuff. I wanted to have all the racetrack trim (top and bottom) restored and reanodized for my 78 crew by a company in California.....huh... all new trim from Dennis Carpenter was about $400 cheaper than...
  23. long beds harder to find than shortbeds?

Seems like here in the good ol salt belt of the midwest, either one is hard to find in decent shape. Overall, there are more long beds in the midwest primarily because of agriculture / farming i'm guessing. None of my dad's neighbors ever had short boxes on the farm (at least in the 70's /...
  24. ***Wanted/Selling dent/bump parts***

Does anybody have a headlight knob and shaft for a 1978 truck? I"m looking for a really nice one for my restoration. IM me here if you have one to get rid of.
  25. ***Wanted/Selling dent/bump parts***

This is a long shot but I'd like to find a set of mint or near mint set of black XLT rear crewcab door panels. Anybody have or seen any for sale?
  26. 1978 speedometer / odometer head unit

Ben, after further inspection, i believe there are some gear problems even tho they look ok. Might just have to find another head unit. :(
  27. 1978 speedometer / odometer head unit

Chris - not worried about that. I'm making the odometer "like new" again - just like the rest of my crew. It's been totally rebuilt from the ground up - and i mean EVERYTHING. So the odemeter will reflect the actual miles on teh truck when I finally get it on the road. I just need some...
  28. 1978 speedometer / odometer head unit

Hey guys, I've got the speedometer head unit out of my dash now. When I hook the speedometer cable up to the head unit and turn the cable with a drill, the speedometer needle is not real steady, it jumps all over the place. Anybody know what might be causing this? The cable has been...
  29. Steering shaft..

TexasNomad, you CAN have a steering shaft like that with u-joints at BOTH ends if you want. Don't let Milllion tell you otherwise. You simply get in touch with the folks at Borgeson and tell them what truck you have (f150, F250, 4x2 or 4x4) and they will fix you right up. I replaced my 1978...
  30. VIN plate rivets

Bucks - I got four rivets from Marti Auto Works and they look identical to those in M78's picture. They cost me a whole $8 delivered to my door - probably the cheapest thing I"ve bought for my 78 Crew! lol.Marti Auto Works 623-935-2558
