Y-Block Intake Interchange

I am trying to install a 1957 4V intake on my 1955 272 engine. I have tried 2 different manifolds and each one "rocks" from side-to-side, because the front of the manifold rides on top of the valley pan before it flushes with the heads.
Is their a difference in 272 and 312 valley covers? I have been told this interchange should work. Help!

B6A6519A .. Push Rod Cover

Fits: 1954/57 Passenger Cars / 1955/57 T-Birds 239/272/292/312 (except 1957 312's with Dual Quads or Supercharger).

Fits: 1954/56 239/256/272 Trucks / 1957/59 272/292 F100/750.

The 1957 4V manifold should fit just fine as this was a very popular swap back then as the "toilet bowl" carbs used on 1954/56's were crap.

What I'm wondering is...what 1957 4V manifold do you have? What's the ID number on the manifold?

If it's off a 1957 Ford/Merc passenger car, or Bird, there should be no problemo.

If it's off a Lincoln Y block, or the 1952/63 279/302/332 versions used in F800 and larger trucks...it will not fit.

btw: What's the 272 engine installed in? 272's were only used in 1955 Passenger Cars/Birds. Trucks didn't use 272's until 1956.

Bill, The 272 is in a 55 Victoria. What are the chances that I accidently got 2 4V intakes that came off engines with milled heads and the intakes were milled also? Is there some way I can measure to determine this? Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, parts catalogs do not list manifold dimensions.

Is there an ID number on the manifold?

Bill, Thanks for your help. I found another valley cover off of a 57 292 that is "flatter" on top and clears the 4V intake. The 55 Victoria valley cover had too much "dome" to fit under the 4V intake.
