What is my rear axle ratio?

3.55 axle ratio in F250 (1990)

Thanks Smokey. Is this a good ratio for towing/hauling with 460 and 5 speed?

She has PLENTY of low end power. Sucks some major gas though, getting around 8 mpg. Yikes! Should I be able to do better? How?

This is a most appropriate post to me. I was wondering how to find out what my rear axle was to match a new solid front axle. Thanks Miranda and Smokey

3.55 are a little high for towing but you have a 460 and live in a flat area so you should be fine.
4.11 or even 3.73 are more preferred for towing but your gas milage would be even worse with the lower rear gears.
The 460 never got good gas mileage 8 is fair for that engine some get a little better some worse.

3.55 is the gear of great compromise. Leave it alone if you want the mileage. Not that there's much mileage to speak of. haha!

The owner's manual I sent you should have that info in it, as far as the available ratios and towing recommendations.
