Too rich to run

I have a 1993 F150 with a fuel injected 5.0. It is not a daily driver so it sits ALOT. It recently started running extremely rich. It will barely idle and dies if you give it any gas at all. Sometimes it has a engine light on and sometimes it does not. I initially thought it was bad fuel from sitting, so I drained the tank and put fresh fuel in it. The problem still exist. Local parts store says their code reader wont work on this year truck. I had a carburated 1983 F150 prior to this. I'm not familiar with the newer stuff. Anyone have any suggestions?

don't play well w others
take the vacuum hose off the charcoal canister by the battery
My bet, you have a bad Fuel pressure regulator, which has caused the fuel pump check valve to fail in your tank, and it is overflowing there, and pumping fuel into your intake through the canister
