Thoughts on re-framing a Gen 6 truck

Saw a 58 Chevy reg cab mounted on a newer 4x4 IFS frame on the way home. I was in a hurry and already in trouble with the Mrs. or I would flipped a U and asked questions. So I have the 79 F250 2wd SCSB. I would like to convert it to 4wd. I have been taking on here and other sites as to lifting it 3-4" with the 2wd suspension just to see it it is what I want and to also fit the 33" tires that I have for it( it will not see anything bigger). The consensus is either build my own as what few vendor have 2wd lifts or will make they are pretty costly especially since I need a 4wd ultimately. I have been it told the easiest and best way is to do a 4wd frame conversion. Easier said than done as these trucks don't come up for sale too often in my area, and they will need to be stretched or shortened to fit the SC. I have a donor that will be available early next year(fingers crossed) So why the problem you say. Wheel has anyone done a 90's frame swap to also gain fuel injection and TTB or even later with IFS. Thoughts and or critiques and pictures and or links if you know of any...Thanks....Mo

Honestly, theres no point in it. The 70s frame, suspension, and axles are stouter then any 90s or even early 00 s 1/2 ton.

Youd be better off just swapping a live axle in front and getting a trans/tcase for yours.

I am in the process of putting a 77 extra cab body on a 1999 f-150 4x4 chassis, I have the fire wall and floor pan almost to where i need it and then i will start removing the 77 fire wall a floor pan. My reasoning is it would be nice to have the newer fuel injection and dash assy with all the bells and whistles and now days with this crappy ethanol in the fuel these older motors don't run as well and not to mention it eats rubber o-rings and gaskets and what ever else . But i picked up the 99 for 600.00 complete truck.

Sweet. My thought are similar, plus from the other have said in another thread, the frames are different and it's just not only swapping in axle and tc, members have to be removed and refitted along with other factors...
