i have a 78 swb,,im fixin for my daughter and its problem after problem..new gear box-replaced leakin pump and it goes down the road fine ,but when you stop to turn it feels like it bindin.?

Mis-adjusted gearbox, ball joints binding, tie rod end binding, steering column issue, many possibilities here.

new gearbox,,reckon ill chek the tie rod ends--those r a pain...

jack up the front end disconect tie rods leave the wheels on then turn side to side check for the bind also lock the hubs if 4x4 do the same while spinning the tir to check the axle bearings. could also be air in the system from the swap and so on and so on

Did you check the axle U joints to see if maby one might be frozen up ?
