Starter Problems

I got a 351M in my 78 and when it's cold it cranks fine, but when you get it warmed up and switch it off the starter don't wanna turn over. It looks to me like the starter should have some kinda heat shield between it and the block to keep the starter from heating up when the engine does, or do I just have a bad starter? Any Ideas

Yes, I've never had a starter go bad before so I don't know if it's normal for it to get worse the hotter it gets

Starters are prone to failure because of the extreme heat generated by headers. I used to put a sheet of asbestos between the headers and the starter. Cant do that now, but you get the idea.

You can get starter blankets to protect them from the header heat from most parts stores.
