shifter removal?

Im pulling the m5od from my 89 f250, but i cant seem to figure out a way to remove the shifter from the trans. there seems ro be a threaded rod holding it on with a nut. I un did the nut and the rod is left. How do i remove the threaded rod? with out double nutting it.??

Oh yea and how do you disconnect the hydrulic line for the slave cylinder?

your going to need a special tool to remove the clutch line from the slave cylinder. they usually come with a clutch kit or you can get it at a parts store. hell if you cant find one i can send youone for free..ive got like 3 of them haha.

as for the shifter removal the rod slides out...with some encouragement. try putting some penetrating oil on it and let it soak. then try and tap it out.

let me know if this doesnt work.

Really on the slave cylinder line?
When i worked on that ranger, there was no way possible to get a tool in there, plus the truck was old as dirt, i just cut it..:suspicious:

yeah the tool works where the clutch line goes into the slave cylinder. basially it pushed away the plastic fingers holding the line in.

Oh this one had metal barbs.
 
I used one of those old "made from sheet steel" type open-end wrenches to
push the collar in on the ZF ('90 F250 parts truck).

Those wrenches are sure as heck junky looking but sure as heck useful too! :)
...bicycle wheel bearing adjustment is the first thing that comes to mind.

ps- I should scan a picture of one. :) Here's a high-speed-steel sheet-metal
wrench I made, since no other wrench was 1/16" thick and 9/16" open-end both...

That's an all-hard (~65hrc!) power-hacksaw-blade and could pop a side off it
and blind an eye! :/ You know it?
I was thinking about that the whole time I was using it, and avoiding getting
hurt in the process too, see?
pps- It's really 9/16", misnamed the file and already posted it to a newsgroup,
so couldn't "fix" it. LOL :)
