When my grandmother passed away last December i aquired "my" first truck again....ive drove the pickup since i was 16 but it was never mine...anyway its a 92 F150 auto w/ push button 4x4 only has 89,000 miles on it 40 some of which i put on before bigred.....anyway its been idling way up(no tach so no idea how high) and when drivin on the hiway it will drop out of od all the way to second gear then jump back to od ect....it will now idle back but almost dies then itll rev back up....ive pulled every vaccum line and it just revs more, coverin it doesnt do anything either....oh its a 5.8 and when its runnin right itll scream!

^^^^^ Sounds a lot like when my TPS failed, except the overdrive since mine is manual. It would make sense though as well. If you want to check it before actually installing, I hooked up the new one before actually doing anything, and the idle came back almost immediately. Mine was really revving when it started to show up. I was putting up snow fence in the dark, and the truck would just revv way high, then back down, then up all by itself with nobody in the cab.

New IAC and clean the old IAC too. ;)

Ok, what a bunch of us has fiNgured out over on FSB is the IAC's don't clean
up so good. But it's cool to clean it and see the difference it makes. If after
cleaning it's "good enough" use it, I guess? ;)

E4od OD trouble has been fixed by changing out the left front turn signal bulb.
(i believe it's that bulb, ever heard of that Ford-weirdness before?:)
Maybe yours has just got a bad connection from having been sitting -and-
being in the rust belt both?

Anyway there's a procedure for re-adjusting the throttle body's throttle stop
screw that involves the IAC. Best to have a new IAC installed while adjusting
it.

Was thinkin bout doin that while i was there....flippin the butterflies open, it looks plumb nasty in there....and yah the turn signal dont suprise me but usually it drops clear to second gear, and thats usually when it tries drivin itself....somebody told me to unhook the cruise all together, cable and all, i never use cruise anyway so thatll go too....did notice when it does deside to run halfway right it shifts hard....ive put most of the miles on it and a majority of them were hard fought miles, but it was in show room shape and ran like a top till my mom and brother took it over after i got bigred....

Gunna trim the rust from the fender wells and put flares on instead of patchin( per local body mans request...)

Hey, is that thing going back and forth between "working kinda bad"
and going into "limp-home mode" by any chance? :)

"your transmission is dead $1200 to $1500" -mechanic to my wife

{she wanted to "take care of it herself" see? ;) LOL}
{"ok, so since the car's totalled, can I have a crack at it? ;)" -Alvin}

I fixed it with a new neutral safety switch ~$100.
Read on FEOA that it was simply in limp-home-mode. :)

1) I wouldnt think in limp home mode i put it to the floor and itd go ahead
and grab 3rd( at about 80) oops....

2) and if it was the safety switch itd would start in gear wouldnt it?
1) I don't know! LOL:)

2) "neutral safety switch" is a misnomer anymore, it's way more than that.
It's the way the EEC "knows" what you've selected for one.

Personally, I'm not a fan of 20W-50 for street use, but that is my opinion.

I don't see a huge issue with it...my car came factory with 5-50 and as you know, the synthetic flows better.
