Hey cats and kittens

Was cruising the BRAND X board today (PLEASE don't be pelting me with garbage again, it's hard to get out of my teeth) and I found this:

TO: All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers

SUBJECT: ADVANCE NOTICE: DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD: Safety Recall 07S49:
Certain 2008 F-250/350/450/550 Vehicles Equipped with a 6.4L Diesel Engine
Powertrain Control Module Recalibration

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 2008 F-250/350/450/550 vehicles equipped with a 6.4L diesel engine, built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from Job #1 through March 9, 2007. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS. In addition, for a list of vehicles assigned to your dealership, visit https://web.fsavinlists.dealerconnection.com. This information will be available on March 21, 2007.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL

To prevent the occurrence of excessive heat in the exhaust system or potential flame from the tailpipe, a revised PCM calibration is being developed.

SERVICE ACTION

DO NOT DEMONSTRATE OR DELIVER any of the affected vehicles involved in this safety recall. A new PCM calibration is being developed as described above. A complete Dealer Bulletin will be provided on Friday March 23, 2007 or as soon as the PCM recalibration software and repair instructions are available to support this safety recall.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Owners of record will be notified via first-class mail after repair instructions have been provided to dealers.

OASIS

Consult OASIS for affected vehicles. FSA VIN listings for unsold vehicles will be available March 21, 2007.

PLEASE NOTE:

Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $5,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory prior to delivery

Blacksnapon, you have any word on this one? Folks with the new 08 might want to be contacting their dealers.

Good thing it isn't hay season yet! These sort of things are to be expected in any vehicle that the only way to make adjustments, is to reflash. The millions of miles of testing were probably done in an area without combustibles. At least the first adjustments are done with the pcm, and not changing injectors (holy 6.0 batman!).At least wait until the dealers have the reflashes delivered to them. Ford is going to advise customers with affected engines. Wonder if this is navistars revenge?

On the radio today an auto guru was talking about that recall. He said that Ford has at present 50,000 orders for the new truck and how much they are counting on this trucks success to offset some of their financial hemorrhaging.

The trouble is with the one time use only fuel lines. Several on the pump, and one each to the injectors. When they are installed, they crush to a specific shape. If improperly installed or loosened, leaks can happen. The trucks involved with fire, all had fuel leaks.

the fire out of the tailpipe (if you have seen the video), takes place only during the regen cycle. When you are sitting at idle, that is more likely when you will see it. If you look at the video, you can see it is sitting in a parking lot. When the truck takes off, thats when it blows out all the flames. As soon as the excess fuel is blown out, the fire goes out. The flash will undoubtedly adjust the amount of fuel sprayed into the combustion chamber to start the regen process.

At training in st. louis, I showed the instructors the video. To a man, "theres something wrong with that thing, probably a broken injector, maybe a valve problem". All agreed it wasn't related to the recall. One said "you could conceivably get a 6.0 or a 7.3 to do that".

All we gotta do is break the end off one of your injectors so it will dump fuel into the combustion chamber, then cut a notch in the exhaust valve so it will go into the pipe.

Well alright then, guess mine WON'T be doing that. Not considering what it cost for these injectors at least!!
