Rare '76 stepside - appraisal

Yep, advertised as "Flareside" in the 1976 catalog. For whatever reason, I had always referred to it as a stepside. To me, the word flareside brings up images of something different, and stepside makes more sense because you can step up on the side :)
From what I've seen (more appropriately, never seen) is a truck like this one. Would love to see some pictures of this truck... Haven't seen any on the internet...

Yeah, I've always heard and felt it was stepside also.

M78... thx for the picture. I notice that this truck has a much larger "stepside" area than my 76. I also notice that the rail on the bed is angled (making it hard to place a camper shell on it)...
So I'm still looking for website or photo of a 1976 F-100 4X4 Ranger :)

^^^Did you miss my earlier comment??? Put 1976 Flareside 4x4 into google images and you'll see a ton. Or plug and play in Searchtempest...I found a half dozen within 100 miles of my zip in about 30 seconds.

@ UTfball68... I do see a lot of flaresides, but only one Ford 76 flareside 4x4, and that's in Europe. I am looking specifically for a 1976 F-100 Ranger flareside 4x4. And I just learned that it is a '76 1/2 in which Ford flattened the flange on the bed to accomodate a camper shell. If you could send pics or links that would be great. Thx for your help :)

Man...I can't do all the leg work for you...it's as simple as punching it in to google and looking. There are a few on the facebook pages being built right now. And if really want a total number that were produced...spring for a Marti report. Best I can tell is there were 225k F100's produced in 1976, 10% of them were 4x4's...I don't have anything breaking it down any further into short bed flaresides. Even if it is a ridiculously low production number, the market doesn't really value it any higher than any other shortbed flare.

Miscommunication, I think. My point is that the truck is rare. Not that it was the only one made. By rare I mean; I don't know anyone that has one, you can't find one for sale anywhere, people still stop to ask me about the truck wherever I go, the truck gets a lot of compliments, and I can't even find one on google. Sure, there are a ton of flaresides on google, but none that are specific to this one... I was hoping someone could help find this exact make and model on the internet somewhere (someone better on the internet than me) ... but still nothing :( 1976 1/2 Ford F-100 flareside Ranger 4x4 with a 6 1/2 ft bed... Anyone?

There's so many of these trucks that have met their demise, that we all have rare trucks, thats one reason why we have them.YelloThumbUp
I saw a guy in a kinking his neck and run up a curb in his rare truck while looking at mine.
I had several offers to buy mine too. No dollar amounts given though.:suspicious:

Use Searchtempest it will pull up all the Flareside trucks for sale. Just put in how many miles for a search from your zipcode.

Another point just because you have the only one around where you live does not make it rare.

I can't even find it on the worldwide internet... does that make it rare? :)
(Or does it mean I'm lacking in my searching skills?)

It's rare just like Mark said, simply because 4 decades have passed......there just aren't a lot of them out there.

When I hear rare, I'm thinking the #1 Escort to roll off the factory floor....I've actually seen this car; it's in Henry Ford's Museum. The Escort ended up being the #1 selling compact car of all time. He didn't know it at the time #1 rolled off the floor, but he knew enough to save the first one.....I thought most auto mfr do that...I saw an episode of Gas Monkey Garage where they found #1 and #2 Camaro's to roll off the floor.......the company kept them and ended up auctioning them off or something like that.....but he ended up getting $600k for the both of them after restoring them to original condition.

Yeah they were 67 Firebirds. But they were a exception, production numbers only make a car or truck rare only if they are low or limited builds.

Lacking in your search skills. Like I said, with millions made, there aren't many that are rare...this build popped up today...
