overdrive ?

My '94 F150 302 E4OD will drive ok but sometimes at highway speeds around 65 it will start to buck a little.... sort of like if I was letting off the gas and then quickly hitting it again. I don't know if this is the "shudder" that everyone talks about?

But if it starts acting up and I switch off the overdrive button on my shifter stalk then the truck runs fine without the jerking.

My question is, is it ok for me to drive without the overdrive being on? Or will it damage anything? Honestly I don't even know what overdrive actually is or does.

Overdrive is just like an extra gear... Turning it off just tells the transmission not to pass 3rd gear. Safe to drive without it, but you'll rev much higher at freeway speeds.

Sounds like either your torque converter is slipping or your overdrive solenoid is failing.

Could be a plug misfire. With the converter locked up, it'll be magnified.
