Need help with stalling truck

I have a 75 f250 camper special. I put new alternator, voltage reg, new sylinoid. The peoblem I am having is...I'll get in it fire it up and let it warm up. get about 3 miles down the road and it dies. Then ill crank on it for ten seconds to get it started and the battery acts like it is dead...the battery is good and has been teted. wait few hours and i can fire it up and drive it away. Sometimes it wont do this for weeks and then sometimes it will do this all the time. any help or opiions would be great. thank you for your time...Doogle
 
Could also be the magnetic pickup in the distributor.
 
I agree with Smokey, the high-tech hillbilly. Control boxes can be problematic. They are very easy and inexpensive to replace. TIP::: MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE COLOR OF THE PLUG ON YOUR CONTROL BOX!!! There are a few different colors. You'll find the color of your plug ON the control box where the wires ENTER the Control Box. YOU MUST replace it with the same color control box. Most Auto Parts employees are well aware of this and will often ask your "what color". I'd start there and if no success, replace the coil next before moving to the distributor magenetic pick-up. check to see if the IM has some space behind it to allow cool air to pass under it.

ignition system needs 5.8 volts to run

less than that the engine stalls

clean all your cable and ignition primary wiring connections

No one is going to use a meter to find electrical problems, they will just swap
parts out until they swap out the right one and/or the trouble just clears up
on its own or clears up because the wiring and/or connections were disturbed.

That's the 'merican way of doin' it or somethin'. :)

That's funny. One of the first things I do, is start wiggling connections to see if anything changes.
Usually cheaper this way.

Yeah, same with using a meter! Cheaper! :)
Find the "open" before wiggling wires then fix that one connection then use
the meter to find other "not so good" connections even tho it's working now.

Worked for me since '72. ...might work for you too? LOL :)

Was hoping my "back handed" way of talking about figuring-out electrical
problems would start a debate/discussion. :/
