Most common engine

I'm having a debate with my buddy about which engine was more common in the 97-03 trucks (particularly the 97s), the 5.4 or the 4.6. I found an autoparts website that had the percent's of each engine in each year but I can't find it anymore. Tried searching...no luck. Does anyone know the popularity of the 5.4 vs the 4.6?

Good question. A lot of work/fleet trucks were delivered with 4.6's, most of the private "retail" units I've seen had 5.4's. I'll bet the number split was pretty darned close.

I'm going to guess that in '97, the 4.6 was the more populace engine. Initially the 4.6 and the V-6 were the only engines available.

I'm guessing that the number would be different with 2WDs because more of those are generally fleet vehicles or optioned less.
