Ice build up

I'm getting ice build up on my running boards under the passenger side back door. To the point that I can't open the door and have to chip it away. I'm afraid of causing damage when trying to remove the ice. I was wondering if a set of front mud flaps would take care of this problem and how they would look on the truck. I can't recall seeing them on any trucks rolling around here.

I've seen a few with mudflaps from Ford. Not too bad looking, but definitely functional.

Is the water coming from the front tire , or over top of the rear tire. A mud flap in front of the rear tire would look funny.
