Hi beam dash light

I'm replacing the bulbs in my gauge cluster and all looks well except light won't shine through the hi beam filter. Instead of having a red filter like the brake indicator has it seems to be completely opaque.

If i shine a flashlight through the cluster, the brake indicator is red, turn signals are green and hi beam is black.

It's like it just has black filter that say 'Hi Beams'

I assumed it was supposed to be red, b/c my father-in-law has a '72 model truck he bought new (chevy) and his high beam indicator is red.

At any rate, the light still doesn't shine through!

I just went out a looked at mine (78). It is blue but it has a fine red line around the blue

Your Hi beam Indicator jewel is glued on to your Speed-O its not built in to the cluster housing..
It should look like this

I turned on my E-flashers. kinda easy when you think about it.

Yeah, my '74 has one like that. its s'posed to be red.

I have a bronco II that the high beam light is so bright that it makes it hard to see down the road. I keep electrical tape over it.
Is it possible a PO of your truck might have had the same problem and went as far as painting the backside of the lense ?

I thought of that. Mine is a pain in the butt. The op's po couldve painted the lens...
