Fuel Tank Selector Valve

Very easy.
Draw a diagram of where each fuel hose plugs onto it and label the hoses.
Pry the hair pin clip out of each hose where it connects on to the valve.
Pull all the hoses off of the valve.
Note some hoses may have fuel in them and if the tank is full you may need to clamp the hose before removing.
Take out the mounting bolts and it is off the frame.
Bolt the new on one.
Push the fuel hoses onto the new valve while checking the diagram you made.
Push in the new hair pin clips and you are done.

Another cool post, Sub. :)

With a little nylon tool the hair-pins don't need to be pried out. :) BTDT! ;)

Then the whole thing just snaps back into place slick as anything. :)

--------------------------

Not sure about you-guy's stuff but my '91's and '90 all have the same size
5/16" hard nylon line. But the fittings are two sizes and so are easy to keep
from getting the lines confused. The larger 3/8" fittings are the pressure
side and the smaller 5/16" one are the return line. :)

The white hair-pin shown above is for the 5/16" fittings and the black ones
are for the 3/8" fittings.

I figured out how to use a good original "quick disconnect" fitting again by
shoving it into a piece of nylon fuel line. My lines were kinked and messed
up looking near the ends so I replaced them. "800-055" (not 054)

That's the one I should have ordered but RockAuto and Dorman both have
their data base messed up. :) I reused an original using a 4" piece of line
off the one they had right... "800-051"

Cut the line short and that makes it easier to shove together and gives you
extra pieces! LOL :) I got a couple brass 1/4" hose barb couplers from Ace
hardware while I was at it they work great.

I heated some almost used-up corn oil from cooking corn tortillas and used
that. Heated to about 300F using a junky candy thermometer, tried more
(340F) but it's too much for the nylon line. :) The trick is to heat both the
metal fitting and the nylon line and the metal fittings are the easy ones
since they keep their heat better.(?)

Anyway, that worked for me. :)

The cup of hot oil retains its heat real good if you have to use it under the
vehicle. Since I ain't McDonald's it won't do you any good to burn the crap
out of yourself with the hot oil. ;)

Uhhh... what was the question again? :(

Oh yeah you know the newer ones don't have that part, Ford put a
one-way (check) (metal) valve on the steel line on the pressure side
of the tank (3/8" fittings) and so the fuel can only flow out of the tank
the fuel pump is pumping in. But that setup is (only?) for internal fuel
pumps tho?

ps- Been messing with fuel lines lately, can you tell? ;)
pps- Wanted to "get it all out" while it was fresh in my CRS ridden mind.
ppps- What's CRS mean again? ;)
