Fordson snow tractor

and if the drums are big enough, it could support the machine across water! seems like alot of stress on a chain-drive system, you would think pulling those 2 sleds of logs if there wasn't drum slippage, the drive chains to the drums would break. wouldn't the safety standards of today have issues with those unshielded sprockets/chains?

I would think if it was built today , it would probably get a little hydraulic motor on each side.

Not genuine Ford, this Fordson has is a conversion kit offered by Earthworm Tractors.

Fordson Tractors were introduced in 1916. They were MAN KILLERS as they had a nasty habit of rearing up and flipping over backwards, and...

Y'all can guess what the results would be when that occured.

Because of bad publicity, US production of Fordson's ended in 1928 (the Great Depression began October 29, 1929), but production contined in Europe until shortly after WWII began (September 1, 1939).

Watch the film: In 1936, Warner Brothers made a film titled "Earthworm Tractors" starring Joe E. Brown. TCM runs this film every so often.

Almost unknown today, Brown was one of the biggest box office draws in Hollywood during the 1930's.
