New guy here........ Just bought a 1976 F-150 XLT Ranger off ebay yesterday. I've been building 67-72 chevys for years and the Ford bug hit me about a year ago. To be honest I fought it for a while but really started looking hard for a 6th gen Ford about 3 months ago. And I'm happy to say I found just the truck I wanted. 76 unrestored laser stright bodied F-150 with the 390 / C-6 and factory AC. Anyway I feel I got a good deal. Here is a couple pics.

Welcome!

I am not questioning you, just a simple question to anyone who knows. Was the F150 available from the factory with a 390?

Thanks, Yea I think the Ford will be a cool project, My last was a 72 CST 4x4 Blazer. But it was a restored org ISCA world of wheels show truck. Some of you guys ever went to New Orleans, Houston or Shreveport World of wheels you may have seen it. You know the kind you spend a ton of money and countless hour building and then never drive it. That was me..... But it now has a new home and owner in SoCal. I planed this one to a long low driver thats why I wanted the LWB. But its so correct and org I hate to custom it up to much. But you can bet on one thing forsure, this one will be a driver not another trailer queen.

Not a problem, I research everything. Yes it was BUILT WITH A 390, Form the info I've found 76 was the last year, I did find some info a guy post about a 78 LTD with a 390 but he stated the hood tag said 360 so I'm not sure on that one. You can run the vin. if you wish F15MLA03581, Built in Aug of 75 with a 390.

Not a problem, always happy to anwser anybody's question...if I know that is. Years of building restored orginal show cars has tought me to do all the rearch I can, After I found this truck that was the first thing I started doing, knowing little about Fords I have been flying all over the net diging. Stay cool DR

Nice looking project. Been looking for a new project myself and haven't quiet decided where to start. I've built several of those chevy's as well and could pick out any nut or bolt from them in a line up. But I'm burnt out with them, It seems to be all about change lately so why not right. Welcome aboard.

Thanks, I just find everybody jumped on the GM wagon, its the dime a doz thing. I find the Fords much harder to get parts for, there is not much history info out there as opposed to GM that is. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

I know what you mean. Any idiot that can turn a wrench can fix a GM product, Fords on the other hand take some knowledge and intestinal fortitude to do right.
I don't know about all that, I have never had a problem finding a part for any of my Fords, and even I can make them work right, so they cant be that difficult. :D

Welcome. I like your truck, but I'm prejudiced - I have a white 77 but its a plain custom model with the infamous 351M in front of the C6. The 390 would be much better. As it is Ive been gathering parts to build a warm 400 for it..... one of these days it will happen!

:rotz: There's no such thing as a hood tag., or a 360/390 in any1978 LTD!

You can run the vin. if you wish F15MLA03581, Built in Aug of 75 with a 390.
F15 = F150 2WD

M = 390 4V (H is a 390 2V; Y is a 360 2V)

L = Michigan Truck Assembly Plant

A03581 = 1976.
----------------
No such thing as a 390 in any passenger car after 1971, as this was the last year for FE engines in cars.

1972/74 LTD: 302 2V / 351C 2V / 351W 2V / 400 2V / 429 2V (1972/73) / 460 4V.

1975/78 LTD: 302 2V / 351M 2V / 351W 2V / 400 2V / 460 4V.

1979 LTD: 302 2V / 351W 2V.

No Passenger Car had a 360 engine. 1968/76 F100/350's only.

1968/76 F100/350's were available with 390's, 2WD only.

390 4V's were offered 1974/76.

1968/76: The only V8 available in F100/250 4WD's is the 360 2V.
