Factory 4x4 w/390

Did the 390 ever come in the 4x4 trucks?

Vehicle in question is a 76' f250 Highboy. I am waiting on a VIN, but I figured I'd check with you guys first.

Thanks,

Derek.

Nope. 4x4's only had the 360 as the V8 option.

Exactly...360's and 390's are the same except for stroke. 360's have a habit of becoming 390's on sale day. So the po either doesn't know what he has and might be trying to fool you or it was swapped in at some point.

Good info, nice way to knock the price down!

If it were the 390 I would have used it, but if it hasn't been swapped in, I will drop the 460 in it.

Measure the stroke.

Read where guys bought a "360 or whatever it is" got home and found out
they had a 410FE or 428FE etc.

Pull the plugs on #1 and #4 cylinders then turn the engine to TDC for #1
cylinder and poke a wire/dowel/pencil/whittled stick/whatever down both
and measure the difference. The advantage to pulling the two plugs is so
you can go back and forth between the two because I bet he was also
told it was a 390 and so was the guy before him all the way back to the
salesman at the stealer-ship.

I think I was lied to -one- time the rest of the time they were surprised,
no kidding. So many times I've lost count. It was as if I'd ran over their
puppy.

Has it got a factory two barrel intake manifold on it? :)

M = motor = 390FE 4 barrel
Y = yawn = 360FE 2 barrel (no 4 barrel 360FE from the factory)
H = half motor = 390FE 2 barrel

G= gag = automatic transmission (don't care what kind they all suck ;)

A = fat assed ;) = NP435
F = friggin' good = T18
E = extra good = T19
C= column = 3 on the tree

B = toughlittleBastard =300i6

? = ? = 352FE 2 barrel
? = ? = 352FE 4 barrel

T18 with its littleassend...

Best ID chart I've ever seen.

Here's the "390FE crank stamping" that comes to my mind... ;)

...at 7:30 they call it a U-notch.

I'm wondering if it's got something to do with the balancing?

What stamping you talking about, Dennis? :)

Could someone tell me the letters for the two 352's?
I ain't got books for those. :/
They might be the same letters already used tho?

Oh, and does anyone know what kind of wheels are on the truck? They are not actually included, but suit the truck very well... I can't drive it without those wheels! :headbang:

I found very similar wheels made by Center Line, but I am not paying $500 each!

BTW Derek, I'm jealous of that truck! Very, very nice!!

Thanks Brad! I hope it's as nice as it looks. I will be driving 1900km to pick it up! No for sure yet though. Lord willing!

Cragar does not list them. The hunt continues!

Thanks for getting me on the right track!

Centerline sometimes has reduced prices on overstocked wheels.

Nice truck no matter what engine is in it if it runs well.
