dana 44 rear?

Friend has a 44 stamped on his rear axle, but its upside down....
I thought the rear should be a dana 60 or a 9"

Never heard of a 44 in the rear, is this some pieced together junk?

That's what I thought, it has no rear diff cover either....

Another question front diff has 9/16 bolts on the diff cover is that a60 or a 44?

If its a removable third (no diff cover) it sounds like a 9". Is it a half ton?

9/16=60
1/2=44

As for the rear 44...I've never seen one before.

Rear dana 44? Its a jeep thing.. front and rear full width 44's in jeep wagoneers

What is the hub spindle nut look like on the front? 4 prong, 6 prong?

IIRC there where some 1/2 ton 2wd Fords that came with D44's in the back.

Damn...learn something new everyday...I've never seen a rear 44 in a Ford truck.

I've had two F100s with D44 rear ends. My current 77 has a 44 in the rear. Axle has treated me well over the past 10 years.

Ask him if the first 3 characters of his VIN are F13 ?

We discussed this on the other site because every once in a while an F13 would show up.

We came to the conclusion it was an F100 with a dana 44 rear axle

So it is factory, but has a 60f??? I think somebody can't read wrench sizes. 150 for thpse asking.
