cleaning the MAF sensor.

Got my '94 F150 with 302 yesterday. An ex-mechanic buddy of mine was showing me how to clean the MAF sensor and told me to get some MAF sensor cleaner spray from the auto parts store.

Do you guys ever clean it, and is this good advice? He seems to know what he's talking about but I wanted to get a broader view from you guys. Jim

Heck yes it's a good idea to clean it. If a K&N filter is in use it's a damn good idea to clean it as the oil from the filter can mess up the readings. You should clean it pretty much every time you check stuff under the hood. I usually do mine about once a month. A dirty MAF and a clean MAF makes all the difference in the efficiency of your engine.

I agree with JR.

Also, depending on the style of the MAF, make sure you don't touch the metal wires or whatever else senses the airflow. I've heard those parts are very brittle and can break easily.
