I'm pretty sure they make vinyl dye. Let me see if I can find a link real quick.

www.npdlink.com go to the online catalog for 1948-79 truck and they have vinyl paint on page 263

EDIT: It says it is SEM stuff

SEM is very good stuff BUT I don't think I would even use the dye on vinyl. I can see that coming off in just a matter of time. Best thing to do is by the seat cover material from LMC, DC or the likes and just recover the seat.

I agree with Scott, however i've suggested re-doing the seat to so many people who would rather just paint/dye it that I just recommend the paint/dye.

Personally,i'm having my seat professionally redone because I want it recovered as close to factory as I can get it.

thank you for the advice i think paint is a bad idea now. i can just see my wife getting in and getting paint on her good clothes. not a good thought.lol

I have used SEM vinyl dye tro do interiors for decades now

Be prepared for doing it every few years due to it being applied to a heavy use area,

I would opt for a newer black seat from a truck up to 1996

Will the 1980-1999 F600-F800 seats work for him? Some of those equipped with benches were black vinyl.

I used SEM vinyl spray on my old console when I sold it.

new owner has used it for about 3-4 months now. No paint transfer on her pants or sleeves.

Now, the SEM stuff was a bit pricey, as the color I needed had to be mixed. It was 35 bucks a pint. If you can find your color in a can, that is a LOT cheaper!

A seat is different as it is a high traffic thing.

It can be done but one has to do it right the first time.
That means $70-$100 worth of the correct products.

Door panels, consoles, etc are easy to do and last a long time.

I wish I took photos of all the parts I changed the colour of
