94 explorer trans question

Hey guys, I have a buddy that is giving me a 94 explorer, 4.0L, a4ld, 2wd. The problem is the trans. He said its burnt up. I dont know yet, have not looked at it. My question is, What are yalls opions on the A4ld trans and if i have to replace the trans is there another one i can replace it with that will bolt up and work? I have found a few a4ld trans on craigslist for sale or i can rebuild it if i have to, but just wanted to know this stuff first...

The a4ld is a pathetic excuse of a transmission. There are two types of a4ld's ones that are bad or about to go bad. The rebuilds are expensive you have to do a hard rebuiild a soft rebuild will not last.
