8.8" Limited Slip axle question

The current weather got me thinking about this, so my question is what about a Powertrax Lock-Right Locker?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PWT-1822-LR/

Ah the proverbial "lunchbox" locker. The lunchbox lockers are very easy to install and function similarly to other automatic lockers (ie Detroit Locker). They are not quite as strong or harsh as a Detroit Locker but they are still an automatic locker and posses all of its benefits & weaknesses.

Really just gets down to what your vehicle is used for when deciding whether to select an LS, Automatic or Selectable Locker. Automatic lockers are nasty to drive on slick streets, ie ice, the ice storms that Houston and the surrounding area get periodically would make any automatic locker in a DD a real handful.

Well the price is right, and I don't mind the the under steer.. I personally haven't seen any ice here but lots and lots of rain.

The next tires I get will be a set of used 32X11.50R15 Yokohama's, so i think the 2 will complement each-other.

As i said choosing the correct LS or locker is totally dependent on the users requirments. As far as ice storms in your area, i lived through two of them in 3-years in the late 80's in your area. I agree lunchbox lockers are reasonably priced.

ok i dug my vernier caliper out from the toolbox today and measured the old and new clutch packs...

old.... .590"
new... .614"

im not quite sure why this is way off the specs you gave me. i redialed the vernier caliper and it still reads accurate both on the physical and on the electronic screen...could the tool be off or the spec be off?
oh and by the way im measuring the setup like this...

steel, clutch, steel, clutch, steel, clutch, steel.

Cool.
URL lists! LOL :)

I've been studying this and either want to go with Ford Racing's carbon
disks in the Bronco's 8.8 3L55 or put an LSD in the F150's 8.8 3.55 and
use it instead, either way I'll put in new gears and bearings while I've
got it apart.

Never done an 8.8 just an air-cooled VW buggie axle (5.14)
and a Ford9inch (3L50) so far.
That's why I can't help you with your clutch pack thickness.

Anyway, here's my choices, anybody got any experience with these?

Travis,

I have been out of town with work so i did not see this.

You left the shim out when you took the measurement.
You need to measure the 4-steels + 3-friction + SHIM. Also use a small c-clamp or similar to hold the pack together (this simulate the preload like s-spring exerts). With the shim included you should measure between .640 - .660max. You may need more than one shim or you may need a thinner shim if your current shim is to thick. Re-watch the video i posted earlier for a good tutorial on the technique.

I installed one in my mom's x brand truck and it is holding up. Great for the winter now.
